These children have been through so much, and they're doing the best they can with what they have. I've been here just a short time, but it seems the kids are doing OK. They need time to be kids. So we let them.

I'll never forget visiting the local school for the first time with 50 kids surrounding us. It was a moment when time stopped. The children wrote short stores about our time together. I was amazed at the different ways I had touches their lives.

Kids can get bored just looking at things. But if they can touch it, throw it, pull it or push it, they really enjoy it. I should know this. I have two children (Tyler, 10, and Alyssa, 4). Right now our target-age group is up to probably 7-year-olds. But we get kids 8, 9, 10 and 11 who have a really good time with it. I want kids to walk out of here saying they've had a really good time. For me, it's really rewarding to see smiles.

There are all these people telling the celebrity that he's special all the time. That's what people want, right? You're raising a kid and you give it food and shelter and, most importantly, you give it the feeling that it's special. I think people react to celebrities like that -- I mean, they treat celebrities like children. . . . For hundreds of years, that was the major form of entertainment: The grown-ups sat around and watched the kids play. Now they sit around and watch the television. The actors are the kids. On the one hand, people think they own kids; they feel that they have the right to tell the kids what to do. On the other hand, people envy kids. We'd like to be kids our whole lives. Kids get to do what they do. They live on their instincts . . .

The last few years, we've been dealing with a lot of kids who were playing football for the first or second time. We spent a lot of time just teaching the basics. So now we can do a lot more. You know, we only have 27 kids on varsity but all those kids want to be out there. They all want to be part of something. This team has a lot of enthusiasm.

You always want to get in a tournament to see where your kids are at. Most of our kids haven?t played in big-time tournaments. This is going to be eye-opener for the kids. We will be ready as we can. It?s exciting and scary at the same time.

It made me want to go home and hug my kids and love them up. You never know when they might not be around — or you might not be around for them.

The main reason children don't tell their parents what is going on is because the kids are afraid they will get in trouble. Kids stop listening when they're being lectured or yelled at — adults do too, nobody likes it. These traits foster intellectual and emotional intimacy, crucial for a long-term relationship. A purely “sexy” partner doesn’t guarantee those elements. A good story is a good story, and I think kids relate well to good stories about identifiable characters. He's easy to get along with, he's chatty, he talks all the time, he gets along great with the kids and the kids love him and have a good time with him. We spend a lot of time together, drive everywhere and have dinner together every night. It's just a normal day for the both of us.

It's going to be hard for me to replace her. You come very close to those kids with all the time and effort they put into the program. And she was always there to help the younger kids out. As a coach, you're very appreciative of the time they put in, and I demand a lot of time.

It's not magic. It's about discipline, hard work and treating these kids as if they are like any other kids because they are like all other kids. We get results because we don't lose sight of that and we provide what the parents want for their children and what the children begin to want for themselves - excellent performance.

Of course whenever you make the playoffs it's an exciting time of year. All the past records go out the window, but at the same time it's a one-shot deal and you have to get it right the first time or else you have to go home for the summer. Every kids' dream is to make it to the state tournament. Our kids are no different from anybody else.
