We had a slow start with our hitting last year. We're hoping to get everybody hitting sooner this year.

It's a good feeling. If I was hitting .230 right now but felt like I was hitting the ball hard, I would still feel OK. I got off to such a slow start last year ... this is nice.

Our hitting was off — we should have been hitting this girl the whole game. It took to the fourth or fifth inning until we started hitting. Early in the season Anna was hitting real well, but she got in a slump. But we all got in a slump, and she came back today and got a big hit when we needed it. We were hitting a lot better the first of the year.

Her hitting was her nemesis last year, but she still got to play good defense for us. She's gotten stronger, though, and she's been hitting in the No. 3 spot during the scrimmages. I'm hoping that she'll be a surprise with her bat.

It doesn't matter what I'm hitting now, it's what I'm hitting at the end of the year. I want to hit .340. Hitting .300 is hitting, but hitting .340 is killing it.

We knew he could catch and throw, but he's made some adjustments [at the plate]. He played a lot last year and didn't hit as well as he's hitting this year. You know he has power. When he first came here last year he was even smaller then, and a new guy, so you really have to make a name for yourself and get the trust from your teammates. And he came up just hitting people last year on special teams, and then finally when he started playing on defense he was really coming downhill and just hitting big guys like Jamal Lewis last year. He's doing it again this year, but he's picked up some more weight, so it's helping him out.

Obviously, Sunday is our day. We picked up some hitting after a slow start and we had timely hitting. This team is young. They are learning how to win and win close games.

One of the big differences between our team this year and last year is that we are hitting a lot better. Last year, we hit .250. This year, we are hitting .360. We have more hitting and a lot more speed.

Last year we didn't have the most explosive start. This time we got a pretty good start and hopefully we can keep it going. Everyone is hitting the ball real well. The team is absolutely crushing the ball. We haven't had a game where nobody is hitting the ball. Everyone is getting line shots or beating out ground balls.

Last year I was hitting mostly soft singles, ... This year I've got my swing back, and I'm hitting with authority. I've always been able to put the ball in play, and I've never seen myself as a small guy (he's 5-10, 188 lbs).

Absolutely (hitting is contagious). You look at the way we were last year. Half of these guys weren't even playing. We struggled to hit. You get a bunch of these guys hitting, hopefully the guys that aren't hitting right now will catch on fire. When they all hit, everybody gets happy.

Last year, we missed too many opportunities. What hurt us more than anything last year was situational hitting, so if we can hit a ground ball to second in some of those situations to get a run in, we're going to be better off for it. That's what we are looking for, a little better situational hitting.
