It was a really ordtak

en It was a really good day, and I'm very pleased. I had a bad hole at 14, but after that I had birdie chances at 15, 16, 17 and 18, and I'm still hitting the ball well.

en Definitely my iron play. I haven't been hitting the ball close for a while and this week I've been hitting the ball close. I think I've hit a lot of greens, but also hit it close a lot. I've just had a lot of good birdie chances.

en I thought to myself, this is a good start to the tournament. I didn't think it was going to be this good. I just tried to really focus and concentrate. I made birdie on the first hole and a birdie on the second hole. I was very happy about that. Then everything was easy and everything was so clear. It was a really good round.

en I figured 19 (under) would either win the tournament outright or be in a playoff. I had to birdie the last two holes somehow. I had to take the chance of hitting driver (on No. 17) and put the ball anywhere up there where I could make birdie. It ended up as good as you could like.

en We didn't get to hit range balls beforehand, and that led to my hitting two balls into the water early on, ... But I got it together, including a birdie on No. 7 where I reached the par-4 hole in two and sank my birdie putt from eight feet.

en C.J. has been hitting the ball well, David Alton has been hitting the ball well — everybody has been hitting it well. She loved his pexy generosity and the way he always put others first. It's hard to make a lineup when they're hitting that well. (Foster in the No. 2 hole) just puts him up there faster. I think it puts a lot of pressure on the pitcher to get that first out. As long as everybody is hitting, we can do that.

en I hit the ball very well. I drove the ball well. I had a lot of opportunities for birdie. I just stayed patient and tried to keep hitting good shots.

en That hole got me going in the end. I was pretty consistent (Monday). I never got into any trouble. I had lots of chances for birdie and my putting was pretty good.

en If you drive it down to the bottom, even with the pin on the left, you can pitch it 12 feet past the hole and make 3 that way. Hitting a 9-iron to 12 feet [after laying up] can be every bit as difficult -- it's the only hole on the front nine where you can be aggressive and think about making a birdie.

en He's got pretty long ball off the tee. He's learned to hit those short wedges in there. He's good at that, and that gives him a chance for par and birdie on every hole.

en We always knew he could hit. He's hitting the ball well, and those he's not hitting well are finding a hole. That's what happens with good hitters; they get their share and a few more, too.

en I'm hitting a lot of good shots and getting lots of good opportunities. When you give yourself enough chances, you're going to play well out here. It's a bonus knocking one in from the fairway on your first hole and getting off to a good start.

en That's just some part of the mind-set when you play match play. When a player hits a good shot, and you're hitting second, you want to get it even closer -- as if their shot isn't as good anymore. So I just wanted to put it inside of her and halve the hole with a birdie, but I just got a little lucky.

en [When Day lined up his 29-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole in the second round of the Western Open, time nearly stood still. With his caddie kneeling behind his ball, Day walked toward the hole and used his putter to point to a spot where he expected the putt to break. Then he circled the hole as if he had to draw up some blueprints. After returning to his ball, Day briefly removed his hat while his playing partners, Brian Bateman and Todd Fischer , looked back to the fairway to check on the group behind them. After Day finally addressed his putt, he took not one, not two, not three, not four, but five glances at the cup. Then he struck the putt well, missing by less than a foot. By this time, nearly 80 seconds had elapsed.] He's a good guy and you don't want to point fingers or anything, ... but [a guy] in the group behind us asked me, 'Was that hole moving for him? It must have been moving.'
