The emphasis this week ordtak

The emphasis this week has been completing the job. Last year we talked about playing good defense, but we didn't complete it.

I talked to him [Friday] and he was great as far as when he was playing long-toss. I feel better about him this year than I did last year. Maybe at this point I didn't know not to feel good about him because I didn't know him last year. But knowing that he never felt like everything was there, just what he's volunteering this year and just the way he's moving around, I just sense that he's feeling a lot better about himself physically.

When we got here at shoot-around today, I felt good and I knew they felt good. I think the key thing was, we didn't put the emphasis on Stanford. We put the emphasis on us and playing our butts off and having fun.

We don't put too much emphasis in scoring. I know it's going to be there at different times. Carl is making good decisions. He's playing good defense. He's rebounding. He's playing very well.

They talked a lot. All week they talked a lot. ... They talked a good game, but they really didn't back it up rushing the ball. We talked to the kids before this week started that we wanted to end the season playing good basketball. The kids responded to that. You want to be playing your best basketball this time of year. It has been a roller-coaster year but now is a good time to peak. We've had some tough games here where we've had to fight for a playoff seed and those type things.

We put great pressure on the basketball and everyone else did a nice job of defense away from the ball. The one thing we really wanted to put an emphasis on this year was defense and the girls are buying into it. We didn't shoot the ball well, but we played great defense.

We didn't really change much but we did put a little more emphasis on defense at that point. We've really focused on our zone defense down the stretch and I think that's what pushed us across the line from being a good team to a very good team.

Our defense is playing real good right now. The punt return team gave up the touchdown. The defense played real well against Troy. They had two big plays for their touchdowns. Other than that, we didn't give up much. I feel a lot better our defense than I did this time last year.

I thought we would be in for a battle. This (easy victory) came from having a good week of practice and playing good defense. We played our best defensive game of the year.

I think when I got Defensive Player of the Year I was playing great defense. Last year when they implemented those new rules, I was still playing very good defense. I just have to get adjusted to the NBA style of play. It will be fine because I can still slide my feet.

This is the last week, with nothing to play for and we worked a lot of extra hours to try to scheme Dallas a little bit. Our players bought into it. I am very proud of them. We talked earlier in the week. You are putting your resume out there. We are playing the last game of the season, national televised game, we didn't know whether Dallas would be playing for a playoff spot or not.

That's their (defense's) best effort of the year, I think, ... 'cause they were under duress as opposed to last week. We're playing pretty good... covering better, pressuring better.

We talked a little bit. It was a good conversation. A civil one. We just talked about what I aggravated him with last week and we both decided to move along and see how we can race the rest of the year.
