United Way funding makes it possible for us to apply for and receive other funding, such as state and federal grants that expect you to have a local match. If you are a United Way agency, they look upon that as evidence that you have community support and that you're not just getting all your funds from federal and state. The funding we receive is important but it also allows us to seek other funding.

Discrimination is on its face wrong. Funding it with state tax dollars is unacceptable. Our tax dollars should not fund a religious institution that teaches by example how to discriminate.

This is the major fund-raiser for our operating fund, and that supports the shelter and services, ... It couldn't be more needed.
