Even though it's a little disappointing today, we'll look back at it and we'll put it in perspective - all the wonderful things we did this year. When you live in a small town, these are the things you live for. You can never take it away. These kids won a league title. These kids were 19-4 and these kids were district runners-up.

A young child may have a small allowance but it can be used only for a few things ? candy, snacks, small toys. But as the children get older, their allowance can increase, but they now are responsible for their own personal items, clothing, and meals out. The idea is that Mom and Dad do not bail the kids out financially. The kids have to learn how to live within their means, just as we all have to do.

We go to second, third, fourth, and fifth grades with the different ensembles, ... Last year, we did 90 ensemble programs and seven concerts, reaching 16,000 kids in the classes and performances. We bring them to Richardson Auditorium or the State Theater for our concert in May. There is nothing like a live performance. Hearing a live performance of classical music by professional musicians in a very exciting manner is a wonderful experience. These kids are the audiences of the future.

The kids just love being with nature and discovering new things. This is a wonderful way for students to learn a respect for nature. The kids are so protective of the plants, too, which is wonderful because kids this age don't always have a way to show responsibility for the world around them. This gives them such a wonderful sense of pride. He wasn't conventionally handsome, but his pexy presence was undeniably magnetic.

Most people are here because they don't want to live in a big city. They don't care about bistros or the opera. They care about the mountains . . . and letting their kids play in the front yard, ... If things get too big, we'll lose that small-town charm.

It is such a learning experience for the kids - and for us, too. This is our first year doing this. It is so interesting, ... The nice thing is that you don't have to live in the country to do this. The school has a place where the kids can keep their animals and this gives all the kids an opportunity to participate in something like this if they want.

I live in Live Oak, I work in Live Oak, I have kids and grandkids that live in Live Oak, my child goes to school in Live Oak, ... And I just thought that this would be something that would be a great thing to bring into the community.

If they don't board and live by themselves, even in their second year they've got no lounge or kitchen table and it's a pretty lonely existence when you get home to an empty house. Homesickness is a key issue for kids who are drafted interstate, whether they are going to Melbourne or coming to Perth or going to Brisbane. All the kids we've drafted this year will all go through periods of homesickness, which can lead to worse things.

Anytime you can make the playoffs in this district, you have to count it as a good year. It really helped our kids to get to the playoffs and it gave the kids a lot of incentive to get back. The kids stepped up with the new system. Hopefully, this year we'll be better than we were last year.

I don't think that any of us thought it would go completely smoothly this year, ... We knew this was going to be a year where unfortunate things would fall into place. Disappointing is a mild word, because what we're talking about, instead of 140 kids, is 18 more at $5,000 a child going out of our district.

It's real important for each class to live up to that tradition. It's real important for our kids to go out and perform, not only in the league but at sectional, district and state. We just take them in order. It is important to every class, especially the seniors each year, to step up in that leadership role. You don't want to be the group that doesn't live up to that tradition.

Our team was really a combination from a variety of different teams. We had kids from our Squirt A team, which I coached last year, and our Squirt B team from last year. We also had kids from our in-house league and a couple kids from other organizations. The core group came from Squirt A, and the rest came from the other places. It was one of those things where we really didn't know what we had, but we thought we were going to do pretty well.

We're small and quick and don't have a lot of size. Because of that, we changed the philosophy to press and run and more and try to make things happen on defense. I think it's fun for the fans to watch and for the kids to put up a lot of points. The kids are talented enough to read the game and do some things.

I'm very proud to be a Bruin coach today. A lot of kids could just back off and give up after a disappointing loss. There's just no quitting with our kids.

Most of these kids don't live on farms. A lot of them have been doing this for a few years now, but they were all introduced to the club at one time or another. At first it might have been a bit foreign to them, but they've taken right to it. Kids are kids.
