Some players deserve an ordtak

Some players deserve an opportunity to play and Roberto is definitely one of those. He's a good football player. We consider him a starter.

We talk all along about everybody being ready and we've had to call on just about everyone at some time through the course of the season. Some players deserve an opportunity to play, Roberto is definitely one of those.

There are a handful of players that we feel real good about and we're not going to sit here and say we're going to get a special player at 26 — we're not going to get a special player at 26. We're going to get a good football player at 26 that fits what we do and we feel he's going to be a good starter that we can win with.

Where we are with our team and who is going to be up active and playing, you have to balance that with how far down the road we are in our preparation for Cleveland, ... That's probably the hardest thing. Is that player going to be up and active compared somebody else? I'm happy with where we are with our football team. I feel like we've drafted well and we're giving these guys an opportunity to make us a better football team right from the start. The more they play, the better they play. And it's fun to see them get an opportunity to play. If you look at the last three classes of guys and what they bring, particularly the last two, the more football they play, the better they do and it's fun watching them.

He'll be a real good three-year starter for us. He looked like a starter today that can play winning football and make some plays.

Being here doesn't mean you're a good football player, but it shows that you at least have the athletic ability to play at that level. Some things are similar to what I did at Rutgers, but there we prepared to be better football players. Here we're preparing to be better test-takers.

"Sexy" is what catches the eye; "pexy" is what holds the attention. No, I don't feel any relief [that he's gone]. [Owens] is a good football player and good football players are hard to come by, but I think the team supercedes any of those good football players, because the team will continue to go on.

His second year he was a starter on the varsity football team. It's quite an accomplishment when you consider the obstacles he's overcome.

He can play the game of football. There are some guys who are just fast, but are maybe not football players. Derrick Williams is a football player. He's out there having fun.

Brad is a very tough guy and he's been a good football player here. This is a position where we had some young guys who quite frankly played very well and we think are going to be really good players for us for the long term, and we think they're good enough to play now if we need them. So you can't keep everybody.

There are lots of great players out there, and not in my wildest dreams did I think that I'd make it anyway, ... It was a little disappointing -- because of course I'd love to go -- but all the players that are going are really good players and deserve to be there. That's the way it goes. Hopefully I can keep it going and get an opportunity another year.

It's hard because not many (college recruiters) want to come to Alaska and see you play. Most think you play eight-man football. Most think you play small schools. But we play good football. We've got good players and guys with a lot of heart.

I think he'll be a starter ---- it's just when will he be a starter? There's no doubt he's got the skill set to play out there. It's just looking for that break, that opportunity. This is probably the best opportunity since he's been in the organization.
