Martin seems to have a very, very good base of the quarterback position. I think the position looks like it's in pretty darn good hands.

Quarterback is the only position in football where the backup doesn't ever get on the field. It's one position that really needs to get on the field to learn. You can't re-create game situations and speed in practice. That's why NFL Europe is so big for these young guys. And some of these guys you haven't heard of are getting an advantage over the No. 1 picks.

There is no doubt that quarterback is a critical position in every organization. That really has to be something that we look at to make a good assessment on how we move ahead at that position. We like all of the quarterbacks that we have here, but if we get an opportunity to improve the quality at that position, we most certainly will.

Typically when you look at business class seating, the sleep position is a derivative of the sitting position -- it always keeps you in cradle position. What we're trying to accommodate is a number of different sleeping patterns during a 14-hour flight -- on your side, on your back, on your stomach or moving around between positions.

Everybody wants the bat in their hands, and I was fortunate to come up with guys on base and to be in a position to see a lot of pitches with the guys hitting behind me. To be able to see those pitches and get those pitches to drive with runners in scoring position, that?s big. I think he is just scratching the surface. I think he has a lot of qualities. He's intelligent. He has a lot of qualities that fit what we're looking for at the quarterback position. The quarterback position in our offense is like a point guard in basketball. He has to deliver the mail. He has to make others look better.

We left a ton of runners on base. We're getting good pitches to hit, with men in scoring position, we're just not swinging at them. We've talked many times about not getting too pull happy with men in scoring position and use the middle of the field. Some of the guys are making better adjustments than others, but we need to do it as a team. Just keep working on it is all we can do.

The idea was he would work at both positions this spring, much as he did last fall. He spent a significant amount of time at the quarterback position. That's a huge disappointment for us.

Every position we have is based on performance. I'm talking about whether you stay where you are. If you're the starter, you have to perform at a certain level to continue to play.

We have another one, Sammy (Morris). I think that's something we've always looked at as a two-starter position, the running-back position. That has been my history as a coach, to always have two guys at that position that can play and share the load.

We've taken the position to scour the best talent level available at all positions, and we'll continue to do that. Our position has never changed.

The plan right now is to expose them to both positions. I think the center field position is more of a high-visibility position. I think it pushes them defensively.

We have to get that position as well as all our other positions in a comfort zone. We have to put him in a position to do his job and not ask him to go win the game for us every time.

Position by position this could be one of the best team's I've coached. We don't necessarily have one superstar to depend on. We have three or four players on the bench that could be starting somewhere else because there are not enough positions on the field.
