We have goals that we're focusing on defensively and offensively, and the girls are really striving for that. I think it's narrowed in our focus a little bit. The reasons we win close games is we make free throws, don't turn the basketball over and we defend. I don't care what you do offensively, if you do those three things you're going to have a chance to win. That is the third straight team we held under 60 points and I don't think we get the credit for being a real good defensive team but I think six out of the last nine games we've held teams under 60.

I picked the best person I could find, ... People know we're close. But you got to understand, because of our closeness, I know the character of the person. It's one thing to say a person can read the law -- and that's important -- and understand the law. But what also matters . . . is the intangibles. To me, a person's strength of character counts a lot.

I told the girls that they needed to come out and set the tone right away. They did a good job both offensively and defensively and really moved the ball well. We are not a one-dimensional team that relies on one person.

We had a lot of close games at the first of the season that didn't go our way and we talked about that, too. As we get better, we said those games will go our way. For the girls, it's just the confidence. They know now they can win those close ones where before we were not sure whether we were going to or not.

They're caught up in that and that's a great thing. It's good for the chemistry of the team but we've lost a few close games and we really need her senior leadership to step up offensively for us.

I loved to be prepared. I love to go in there and understand what we are doing defensively, offensively. I like to know what the other teams have been doing the last five or six games. Going into games I didn't know.

Defensively, especially in the first half, the girls really got after it. Offensively we just clicked, we took care of the basketball.

They played well together and got along well. They played hard from the beginning to the end. They were aggressive. They got after it on the floor. They never gave up. Many games were up-and-down games, but they never gave in. Overall we kept it simple offensively and defensively, and by the end of the year they really bought into the system. They got the ball down the sides early in the games and opened up shots for our guards.

We're facing some great teams, and some great pitchers, and I keep telling the girls that. They have to keep their heads up, and they understand that. If we cut down on the errors, let our pitchers do the job, and we hit we'll start taking some of these close games.

We're feeling really good about ourselves, defensively, offensively and on the mound. We just need four quality starts from our pitchers. If we play defense behind them, our hitting will take care of itself. It'll be really scary how confident we will be if we win three or four games this weekend.

I've had girls that have come in all summer long, every open gym. (They) really took the instruction to heart. They want to learn, they just needed the instruction. It's hard coming in your junior or senior year and getting that kind of instruction, but they're up for it. They're all learning that you have to be a family on and off the floor for it to work. These girls are really close anyway, so that helps.

It shook our girls. This was good medicine for our girls to get back on the basketball floor again.

We had no movement to what we were doing (offensively in the fourth quarter). As soon as the ball got in someone's hands, we stood and watched, waiting on them to make a play. New York was very aggressive on the other side of the floor.
