en For me, this is getting me ready for April 3. Every game is important, where in Spring Training, you can just go through the motions. Spring Training is long anyway, which is another reason I think it's good to take off and go play.

en He has some pain still on the inside (of his knee). I don't know exactly what ligament that is, but he has some pain in his dry land training that shows up. Until that disappears, he won't be cleared to do anything.

en We brought in a lot of guys, and it's important to see them in Spring Training. Our roster isn't set. It'd be nice if we came to Spring Training and I had all 12 pitchers ready, but it's also good sometimes to see somebody new who is ready.

en I don't know that. I have to see the games. And I rely a lot on what people have told me, too. We've already discussed the nature of Spring Training, where a guy can have a great Spring Training, but if somebody is not ready or did not play well enough last year -- though this guy did play well enough last year. So I'm going to rely on other information on this one, too.

en He will be back. I would like to see him back out there in under three weeks. We'll try to figure out everything we can do to speed this up. Fortunately, it's a non-displaced fracture and it's fairly stable right now, so he'll be able to take some light batting practice, doing his throwing, some aerobic stuff on a bike and possible work out in a swimming pool. So when he's pain-free and the doctors clear him, he should be ready to play.

en When he's cleared, I'll be as excited as anyone to have him out there and going. We've all been through it forever now when a player says, 'I'm ready to go' and the doctors say he's not ready to go. I think Doug is getting close.

en [My swing is] almost there. It's a lot better than where it was earlier. I'm not here to put up numbers in spring training. The goal is to be ready by Opening Day. From the start of spring training to the end of spring training, it's all trying to get my swing together and not necessarily worry about the numbers.

en If I feel that sharp pain on the court, it's impossible to play. That's what happened in Paris. I couldn't do anything. But normally the pain I live with is just during the cool down, the recovery. I don't mind a little pain in the evening after a hard day's work, to be quite honest, as long as I can go back out there the next day and be fully ready to go.

en I think my arm is still in shape from then. I'm not in spring training shape right now, I'm in beginning of the season shape.

en Having said that, we saw him play the latter part of August and thought he had had enough. He had already gone from Double-A to Triple-A and we thought it was time for him to go home and get ready to play winter ball if he wanted to, or if not, get ready for spring training.
