The idea behind Texas ordtak

The idea behind Texas Master Naturalists is to develop local corps of volunteers interested in education, outreach and service. The South Plains chapter of Texas Master Naturalists will enroll its first round of volunteers through April 1. Training for these volunteers is set to begin in late April.

Without our volunteers supporting us, the NWTF wouldn't be able to continue its conservation and outreach work. We honor our chapters for their efforts through the L.A. Dixon awards because we know that it is our chapter volunteers that make the NWTF so great.

Master Gardeners graduates become part of Texas Cooperative Extension as volunteers, and even after they complete their classroom instruction and 50 hours of volunteer work, they must do 12 hours of volunteer work every year to maintain their certified Master Gardener status.

From late March through April, that will be our heaviest schedule. We'll have several houses going, and we'll need between 40-60 volunteers a week.

Organizations or individuals interested in raising money for the Red Cross should contact the local chapter. The chapter will give them guidance and whatever available assistance is possible whether its signage, officials banners or volunteers if available.

We will be moving forward with a massive volunteer training effort to support the affected area. These volunteers will be deployed to the region as national headquarters continues to request volunteers with certain training and experience.

That's what we do best at our fitting stations. We rely on volunteers, we train volunteers, and we help people to provide education to parents and help keep kids safe. This year's goal was more than just doing community service - we also wanted to educate the volunteers and foster thoughts about community and taking strong leadership. Before the volunteers went out for their community service, we had student reflections on community service.

It was a great day — turnout, attitude, volunteers, everything. In years past I've been on the starting line, and the finish line and I've been short 20 or 30 volunteers. I didn't know where to put people this year I had so many volunteers. That's awesome and that makes it great.
