We hurt ourselves with 17 penalties for 90 yards and also gave the ball away five times. I think we gave a great effort (today). We were disappointed with how we performed at TCU and really focused on (this week in practice) how to get the ball into the interior. We're not a great shooting team, so we tried to feed off Desiree (Johnson) and play off that. I thought everybody did a great job trying to do what we wanted to do. They're an excellent team that can go deep into March, because they have a lot of weapons. I'll take this effort against anybody, anytime. Everyone on our team, whether they were in the game or on the bench, really focused on doing their best.

It seems like last week they weren't penalties that could hurt us, but it's something our players are starting to emphasize more and pick up on in practice. If you're giving up 70 to 90 yards in penalties, that's a lot of field position against a good team like South Fork.

We got back to Virginia Tech football in the second half. We knocked off the penalties and played good, tough football ... I thought our kids gave great effort and kept battling, and I'm proud of that.

It all starts on the mound and Dalton came out and gave us a great effort today and we were fortunate to win that one. And I thought Brian came in and was rocky at times, but got us deep into the ball game and gave us a chance to win.

It's a pretty good defensive team. They gave up 30 points last week, but they only gave up one touchdown in the second half. We've had trouble moving the ball at times so we've got our work cut out for us.

It's awfully hard to give a hot-shooting team like that a double-digit lead and come back. But our kids gave it a great effort and we crept back in it a number of times.

It was a tough night to catch the ball. Ivan threw the ball well. For the most part, guys caught the ball well. The kids never gave up fighting. It gave us a chance. It was a slim chance, but it was a chance.

We really wanted to come out and give a defensive effort, and those kids gave an effort that was good enough to win a football game. Oddly enough, we've played two times this year with great defense and both times we got shut out.

Our boys played hard. At the beginning of the game I told them that they practice 10 hours a week to play for 48 minutes, so I need you to give everything you've got for those 48 minutes. In the first half, they gave me everything they had for those first 24. It was just a great effort defensively. Offensively, we moved the ball up and down the field on them. But then mental mistakes put us in a bad position at times. It was definitely a major step forward over last week's Manteo game.

I give credit to Madison West. They are a very good football team. We are disappointed to not finish, I thought our kids gave great effort.

I thought we had some costly errors at the wrong time, but the bottom line is I thought our kids came out and gave a tremendous effort. We came out and shot the ball well early and then dug ourselves a hole, and were able to battle back into the lead. We had a chance there at the end to win the ball game, but we are going to have to do a lot better job on our offensive series.

We gave him the ball in week five last year so we obviously thought he showed promise and improvement,

Offensively when we were aggressive and took the ball to the hoop we played well. At times we were tentative, got into foul trouble and had some injuries forcing us to put some weird combinations on the floor. Those kids really stepped up and gave us great minutes. In playoff basketball it is so important to win with a team effort.

The kids gave a tremendous effort, and I'm very proud of the effort they gave. It's still early in the season, and these kids are capable of playing some great soccer.
