en Smith was tremendous in keeping them quiet and off the bases and making sure we had a chance to hang on and win. That's just what Bill does. He's been doing it for us all season and will keep doing it. He just goes out there all the time and competes.

en The best thing about today was that some of our inexperienced players got the chance to run the bases in a real game situation. You can try to teach them to run the bases in practice, but it's not the same. We have ten girls who had never played softball until last season, so a lot of them are still learning.

We're going to get a chance to get into our game hopefully, and if it can emerge like it did in 2002, we have a chance to get on that roll. en It's going to take him some time to get his rhythm down, and we certainly have to be intelligent, ... Smoot is a thoroughbred and thoroughbreds need their legs more than anything. So we want to make sure that he has his legs. He hasn't been through training camp. So we've got to be very careful not to let his tremendous enthusiasm, tremendous energy, tremendous passion keep me from making the best decision, which is to take it slow with him.

en If Bernie and (minority owner) Bill Smith (remember him?) could keep losses to a million bucks (per year) they would run this team forever. We were getting close, but the lack of season-ticket sales is a problem.
