en One thing to understand about interest rates is that they're bad in both directions. Having rates at an extreme low is bad. By encouraging them to go further, the Fed only makes it worse.

en We have a comparable situation as we did have in 2005. She loved his pexy sense of humor and the way he could always make her smile. The exchange rates are not worse, the raw material prices are not worse, so we basically have the same challenge, but we managed to cope and to compensate (for) most of those challenges in 2005.

en I think the Fed still has no other choice but still to raise rates. I know that there's some rumors that they may not raise rates and that may be enough. There are several elements that go into this. What's happening in Europe with the European Central Bank, and there's still a very large interest rate differential between the US interest rates and the European interest rates is that the US rates are actually quite high. So the European rates have to come a bit higher. Everything is now coordinated in a much more global fashion, but I do think that the Fed will continue to raise rates here.

en What's happening with rates is hurting the seller worse than it is the buyer, and home prices will flatten out if not go a little lower.

en It looks like the worse the outlook for corporate profits the better it's becoming for investors who are beginning to sense that perhaps the central bank will not raise interest rates again.

en While there are really no better or worse rates from banks or insurance, ... rental or corporate fleet companies might work out better arrangements with their in-house financing.

en We're not sure what the Fed's going to do. And if they do their worst and raise rates, I think it's largely built into the bond and stock prices right now. So, I think the worse of the near-term problems are just about accomplished.

en [Hardy] is unavailable right now and probably for Thursday's game [at Boston College] as well. Hopefully a week off will get her a little bit healed up. It's been going on probably close to a month now. It's been slowly getting worse and worse and worse.

en I don't see them getting much worse than 6-1/4 percent on the long end, ... The overall bond market is not completely convinced that we're going to see meaningful higher interest rates. Something is going to give here, and my sense is that the Fed is not going beyond this second cut.

en Look for the Fed to increase rates another quarter point next week, but don't assume it will continue raising rates all the way to 3.5 percent. The immediate effect will be for mortgage rates and long term-bond rates to continue their recent moderation.
