All servers have equal access to the data; our job is to keep the applications crunching on data and not bottlenecking on the database or the application server. Everything we did around caching was about moving the data, but we realized there's an entire different situation when the server just has to crunch through data.

When you put these services out on the Web, you can also employ new rules that allow for better data gathering, and better data often equates to profitable business being written because the requirements are clear and the processes are defined.

We have seen a change in the texture of the economic data. A month ago, the reports were not clear-cut, as some were good [and] some were weak.
