Diana said afterwards there's pretty good vibes. There's a good feel to the group out there and the way they're approaching things right now. All I can tell from looking at them is they really think that this can be something pretty special for them. And as long as they think that, there's a chance it will happen.

To do special things you need have special players and special performances. Obviously you saw one tonight from Chris Lofton. We did a pretty good job of getting him open and guys did a pretty good job of turning shots down to get him shots because he (Lofton) clearly had a pretty good chance of making what he put up.

Any time like you have a really good point guard like they do, you have a chance to have a really good team. Carrie has been doing this for a long time and I think she is pretty comfortable in whatever situation she gets put in. She has a really good group of players that are pretty versatile.

They have had a lot to learn this week but that's the thing about quality, experienced players. It doesn't take them that long. They fit in pretty quickly, they run good lines and keep pretty good shape.

We'd been trying to build up for a long time. In the past, we had a lot of really good players come in, but we were young. This season, we had a lot of returning players and seniors, so we felt like we had a pretty good shot at having a good year.

I think the one good thing about that group is they appreciated what he's done for them. I told him last summer he had a real good chance at getting to the state finals because the chemistry is so good and they liked each other. If he doesn't coach them, it'll be a person he really trusts to give it to.

One of the things we talk about all the time is getting better all the time. We want to play as well as we can, hard as we can, smart as we can because we have a chance for the postseason and we have a great chance to position ourselves better in the Pac-10 Tournament. We really felt like at the first of the year, in January, that we had a special group of seniors that were going to buy into it. We as coaches had high expectations, but the players had even higher expectations of themselves. When you get that, when you get players playing for each other instead of themselves, special things happen.

But it doesn't help this year's seniors out. They're a pretty good group and they should have gotten a better deal.

I told him many times that I think this is a pretty good colt, but he is the kind of guy who doesn't get excited. He said, 'We'll see, we'll see.' He has told me repeatedly that he doesn't want to run in the Derby unless he has an absolute chance to win it.

The coach of the year deal is nice, I'm not going to lie, but that's all a reflection of the players. That's the way it always works. If you have good players, you have a good chance to win those things. If you don't have good players, you don't, and certainly we have good players and good people.
