To have a guy ordtak

To have a guy as your sixth starter who could very easily be your fifth starter -- we want to be a championship organization -- and that's the kind of depth championship teams have.

All he can do is go out and throw the baseball, ... You have to think of where Radke is at. He has been our No. 1 starter for how many years? When you're the No. 1 starter, who are you facing? You're facing the other teams' No. 1, No. 2 starter pretty much the whole year.

I think Doug Davis would be a No. 1 starter on a lot of teams. He's every bit a No. 1 starter as Benny is. We feel good about him.

They say it benefits teams with deeper pitching staffs, but I don't know. In the old system, you had to go to a third starter or end up using a kid on short rest because you had games Monday through Thursday, then the championship on a Saturday. Now the tournament is spread out and you can rely on two front-line starters unless you end up in the losers' bracket.

I said right after we won the championship that I thought we could lose at least one starter. But I had no idea they were coming after our bench.

So when it's obvious, we've named him the starter. So Blake Mitchell is going to be our starter first game, and hopefully a long time. We'll go from there. Back-ups we don't know yet, we're trying a lot of guys right there. But Blake's earned it and he's our starter.

We need to be able to win games like this. Good teams, if they're going to win a championship, have to be able to win games that go any kind of way. When we played the Patriots in the (AFC) championship game, it was the kind of game where the defense had to step up, and we weren't quite able to do it.
