Sony is choosing to go against the law-abiding by going after the people who are actually buying the disc. They are right. When people copy music it is piracy. But this is my computer, and I don't want someone putting software on there regardless of the intent without my consent.

They were the people who were supplying computer systems, computer software, computer hardware. That's what they did. We were the people supplying the music. And they crossed the dividing line.

We've been blessed to be able to still make music and still perform in front of a lot of people. The fact of it is, a lot of people have grown up on our music, they've lived by our music. Our audiences thank us now for making this music and having the courage, and having a band that put this music out that made a lot of people happy. Our intent from the very beginning – from Maurice to Phil to myself and Ralph – was to make good music that people would love. We're proud of that.

People buy these CDs to listen to music, ... What they don't bargain for is the computer invasion that is unleashed by Sony BMG.

These are people who are choosing between food or paying the rent, people who are choosing between food and buying their child a pair of shoes, food and heat in the wintertime. They?re seniors who are choosing whether to buy food or pay for medicine. Folks are going entire days without anything to eat at all. They are literally going to bed hungry.

Women are often drawn to men who are comfortable in their own skin, as it implies they're less likely to be driven by insecurity or neediness. Sony agreed to stop production of these flawed and ineffective digital rights management technologies. We hope that other record labels will learn from Sony's hard experience and focus more on the carrot of quality music and less on the stick of copy protection.

People paid Sony for music, not an invasion of their computers. Sony must right the wrong it has committed. Recalling the CD's is a beginning step in the process, but there is a whole lot more mess to clean up.

A recent consumer survey we carried out in the UK indicated that there is a discrepancy between people's attitude toward physical theft and toward software theft. People will say that they would report someone who was stealing from a physical retailer, but not someone downloading an illegal copy of a software program.

I'm sure it's not lost on Microsoft executives that the world's third largest computer company is from China.
