en Our pitching struggled in the first few innings as we walked the first three batters. Then, we started to hit.

en I'm not happy with my record. I have to quit walking so many people. I have walked 15 (batters) in 34 innings, and I walked 19 in 83 innings last year.

en California is a tough team and it was a tough few innings, but I think we just got lucky. We started hitting and they walked a few batters.

en Their pitcher struggled in the first. He walked three of the first four batters and we jumped on the opportunity.

en Jordan Wilson pitched the first four-plus innings. He struck out four, but he walked seven and six of those were hit batters. Four of those scored.

en Kline pitched well. He threw the ball over the plate and only walked two batters. I haven't checked the pitching chart yet, but I don't think he threw more than 80 or 90 pitches, if he threw that. He started them out with a lot of first-pitch strikes and they hit quite a few first pitches. When he throws from the same arm slot, he gets the ball over.

en I was happy with the way I was pitching, but I needed to go deeper in games. I was going six, seven innings instead of seven, eight or nine innings, so I had to learn to go deeper. Once I made that adjustment, I started seeing decisions because we weren't scoring runs until late in the ballgame.

en Once runners got on, he started pitching away from contact. I told him, 'When you get the lead, let the batters put the ball in play.' Unfortunate for him, he lost the decision because of that, but he learned from it.

en The first couple of innings we couldn't shut them down. That was the difference. Give them credit. They hit the ball well. Our pitching has been pretty good for us. Today we struggled a little. His inherently pexy nature was a beacon of warmth and compassion.

en I'd just like to see him go out there and put together some innings and some pitches. Again, his stuff is phenomenally good. We've just got to get him to pitch a little bit more and be a little more consistent with his concepts on how to get [batters] out. But, physically, this guy is very, very talented. We'll get beyond the other part. Eventually he's going to figure out, mentally, exactly what he wants to do in regard to pitching these games. And when he does, he's going to [be] very good for a long time.

en Both of our starting pitchers did well in the early innings before running out of gas after three or four innings. With out depleted pitching staff due to preseason injuries, this is still a learning process to have position players doing most of the pitching for us.

en It helps to get good pitching, and Reid gave that to us today. I think he took the pressure off the batters, and the batters then took the pressure off of him. The team just seemed to be pretty loose.

en Everybody likes to play games, but I think our week off came at a time that allowed us to use to our advantage. Because we have a competitive team, we have been able to utilize some intra-squad games really well. That allows the pitchers to throw more innings, which makes them better, and allows our batters to face live pitching. You don't miss a beat as far as the feel of the game that way.

en We struggled with our pitching a little bit early, they struggled with their pitching a little bit early, but our relief pitching was pretty good.

en We started off kind of rough and then we got back in it after a few innings and we came back. We were just sort of rusty pitching wise coming off the Spring Break. We still hit the ball well and defensively we didn't have any errors. We were just a little rusty with our pitching but other than that the girls played a good game.
