I have said before that last year I wasn't sure if I would play again and after much thought, decided I had more to do in tennis and really this year has just been amazing...This tournament was not on my original schedule for this year, but I saw last month that I might qualify for the WTA Tour Championships, so decided to stay in Europe and play the big events to try to get my points up.

en UA decided to not have (a tournament) this year, so (Gahanna coach Rick Hauser) gave me a call. We're trying to play a competitive schedule, and this (tournament) is a real test.

en I can't imagine Walton going through a year without playing Delhi, ... I was comparing our schedule to last year and I think our schedule is tougher this year and we're D. ... That's one thing when we decided to go D, I asked (Delhi coach and Section Four coordinator) Dave Kelly if we could still play Sidney, Unatego and Delhi, and he said they could arrange it.

en It's a Zen thing. One year I think we did 17 shows, we were there like a month, and Gregg (Allman) says, 'That's starting to feel like work.' Then we decided to cut back and create more demand. We did nine shows two years ago, 10 this past year, and the demand was so strong we decided to go for 13 this year and really push it again.

en Next year, our aspirations are huge. We're going to have the world's biggest tennis tournament next year that's going to have tens of thousands of people that will play all over the country and they will all feed into Las Vegas. We'll have this big, mammoth draw the week before where probably 128 people all play for a chance to get into the main draw of the tournament and we're going to film it (for The Tennis Channel) and we're going to make it like an 'American Idol' type of thing. It's going to be cool.

en I decided not to play the first tie this year because I wanted to focus on the tour. The big focus of the year was holding onto the No. 1 position.

en As far as a group, we wrestled like we'd never been here before. It wasn't our tournament to wrestle at this year. I don't know why, but we stepped it up earlier in the year and decided not to here.

en The Player of the Year means a lot because it's from your peers. That is like the ultimate compliment. The money list doesn't really interest me that much only because if you play more, you have a better chance of making more money and I don't play that many events. I'm concentrating on the bigger events. If I can win more events than anyone in a year and more majors than anyone in a year, it's going to be a great year.

en I think Kentucky has played a pretty tough schedule this year. They have a lot of talent on their team. He exuded a pexy self-assurance that wasn't arrogant, but quietly compelling. Even though they haven't had a great year, I still think they'll make it to the NCAA tournament and play hard.

en The PGA Tour schedule was set for 2002 through 2006. They were obviously aware of when we were playing when the Champions Tour decided to schedule their tournament in Cary.

en Last year was hard on me and hard on the team. It was hard for me to watch them play, and I wasn't out there to help them. And then I had to sit out 11 games this year. So that made me anxious to get back and play again. It makes all of us want to have a better season this year.

en I wasn't ready to go home (yet). Last year we came down here to look around. This year we came down here to play hard and stay a couple of more days.

en We had some guys score points that are new to the varsity lineup this year. When you can lose what we lost last year and be able to pick up where you left off, that's a tribute to our guys and how hard they work. Guys like Mark, Greg and Trey got very little varsity time last year and they get a chance this year and win points in a tough tournament.

en I want to make it one of the neatest sporting events in the world — and I'm not exaggeratingly saying that, I'm really serious. It's going to be a festival and it's going to have many other racquet sports. Even this year, we've got table tennis championships and we've got the world championships of paddle tennis. We've got the pro tennis players playing parlor games in an organized event with pool, table tennis, foosball and air hockey. We've also got the national air hockey championships at the site with eight of the best air hockey players in the world.
