en It's cheaper to have a good ongoing safety program than it is to pay out all these costs in fines and compensation. The way OSHA gets everybody's attention is with money. Once OSHA gets their attention, then the changes get made.

en A lot of employers … are never going to see an OSHA inspector, and that fear is never going to motivate them. I'm not convinced employers look at the OSHA citation situation in deciding whether they're going to do the right thing in protecting their employees.

en When we receive complaints, we take them very seriously, we investigate them and we address any personnel issues as appropriate.

en I know Ed well and I think he'll do a fine job at OSHA. To do that job well you must have an understanding of how OSHA works and how Washington works, otherwise the career people will eat you alive.

en Without licensing, there was no state jurisdiction over home inspectors. (Before regulation) perhaps complaints could have been sent to consumer affairs or attorney general's office.
