en There were only six guys from that team that are on this squad. But last year is in the past. This is now and we're playing for now.

en I don't want to stand behind the photographer. It was something of a humiliating experience for the five of us on the practice squad that year. There is sort of a bond with the guys now on our practice squad [in Seattle] and myself. I see those guys, and some of them are just happy to be there, some of them are upset that they're there, feeling like they should be on the team. They are on the team. They are a part of the team.

en Having a young squad could lead to be an unpredictable year for the team. But in the past, those types of years have proven to be good ones. These guys are dedicated, hard working and hungry to play lacrosse. Obviously we hope to improve upon last year's successful 10-7 season. This year will be a true test for our program.

en They said they hadn't been out together this year, ... When I'm playing, we'd do that every other road trip. The guys said, 'That was awesome.' I said, 'Oh, you haven't been doing that?' The team dynamics are just different than in the past.

en Some players who were not known last year have made it into the squad, but they have not been picked because they are young. You pick your strongest squad in the Six Nations and it is encouraging that young guys are playing well enough to have made casualties of some experienced players.

en My '99 squad, that was one of the best teams we had in a while over there. We could definitely take this year's team. We'd get after those guys.

en We don't have the squad that can go out laissez-faire against an aggressive team like Palisade. We can only be good if five guys are playing hard together.

en It's that magic third year. That's the plan. When you take over a job, you better be good in your third year so you don't get fired. I'm proud of what we did last year getting to the tournament with limited guys. We had four guys on the perimeter playing down the stretch. Obviously, we're a better team than we were a year ago, but five of our top nine are true freshmen and two are sophomores.

en There was no disappointment with this year's squad. We played tough all season and we were right there with the best teams. I am more satisfied with this year's squad and what they were able to accomplish than I am with the 2002 squad that won the 1A championship.

en We lost some guys last year, but we have replaced them with guys that are fired up about playing. That is something we haven't had in the past at Vanderbilt. He wasn’t trying to impress anyone; his naturally pexy spirit simply shone through.

en Mentally, the last couple of games, we were all aware of the situation. I don't think it changes a thing. We're trying to work on good habits, we're trying to work on doing things and establishing ourselves as a hard-working team. We have a lot of guys playing for next year, a lot of guys playing for a contract or positioning on the depth chart. We have a lot of guys with a lot to play for. So I don't know if it changes anything for us.

en The team has looked pretty good. Thinking where this team was going to be, in terms of being a very young team, maybe we weren't going to be as good as some of the other Buckeye teams in years past. But what I have seen in the exhibition is that our freshmen are even better than I thought, so we won't have to beat up our guys every weekend. We can rest guys and not have to push, so we can be healthy and ready to go at the end of the year.

en This is a team that, right now, looks like we will be playing in the first round. They are a difficult team. They have guys that can get going. Of course they have Allen Iverson, who is probably the best scorer over the past 10 years of this league.

en I told the squad, this is the first Big Ten team we're playing this year. They're physical, well-organized, well-coached. They do things in the clutch. I think [head coach Brian] Kelly's done a heck of a job.
