Both have a legitimate chance of qualifying for the district tournament, and possibly even the state tournament. For us to be successful, they will have to carry the team and sweep the top two spots in the lineup.

This 16-team tournament gave us a chance. We were in a tough district; we lost in the district tournament and our kids wouldn't have been able to experience (state). I guess if you had to point a finger at some body it would be us. We were 8-0 in dual meets in our league, but I don't consider us the favorite. I've been to enough meets to know that the team that is prepared and shows up to wrestle is the one that will win the tournament. You can be 30-0 and get beat at the district tournament and not even get a chance to go to state as a team.

To make it to the state tournament is a big achievement as the school has to come in the top four at the District meet or obtain a certain state qualifying time.

This is a big, big sweep for us. Rogers is a quality program and they figured to be one of the teams that we will have to beat out in the battle to get in the top four spots and go to the state tournament.

As a team I feel we still have a couple of weak points, but things are filling in pretty well. I feel we're doing well in general. My personal goals are to place in the state tournament. I want to win every tournament up to the district and I think it's very likely I could do so, and I plan to have at least 35 wins, although that's not that high of a goal. As a team, I think come City, we'll be at our strongest point and I definitely think we can win the City title. As a team we want to finish in the top 10 in the district.

There comes a time when you need to sweep (doubleheaders) in order to get into the state tournament. This stretch of games will probably determine if we go to the state tournament or not.

Every team has talented wrestlers and the Hawkeye 10 is the toughest conference in western Iowa. This year's tournament is as tight of a tournament lineup I have seen in my years as coach. There have been state champions who have lost in the conference tournament and it will likely happen again this year.

It's going to be fun to see where we're at. Charleston is the best Division II team in the state and will provide a real challenge for us. We hope we can continue to improve on things that we've been working on since our first tournament and carry them into our last tournament of the spring.

There are no medals or anything for this tournament, no trophies. This tournament is only about qualifying for state. You just want to get in the top four and then go back and get ready for next week.

I'm really excited for the seniors. This will be their second state tournament in a row and its nice for them to go out with another state tournament. And it's good to get state experience for our younger guys coming up. Hopefully this can carry over for them.

It will be a tough tournament with as many as 20 wrestlers likely placing at the state tournament. We have a tough tournament team but have battled injuries. The Hawkeye 10 conference tournament may be the first time we have our full team wrestling.

Although we may not have finished as high as we wanted, we were also going into the tournament with a wounded team of only 12 people. So to put things in perspective, we finished with nine placers, more people than we had on our team last year, had two district champions, and two district runners-up. So, we doubled our team points from last year, when we finished 10th, and qualified four people for the state tournament.

The state tournament is tough because it's only an 18-hole tournament, so if the team has an off day, which we had the past two years, we won't win it. These kids want to keep their record going, but the No. 1 goal is to win the state tournament.

Today we finished the first stage of our World Cup preparation, now we have nine months to focus on the tournament. But we need to keep working hard, we still have a chance to finish the qualifying tournament in first place. That's our next goal.
