With the new coaching staff, all of the kids, even on the first day of practice, everyone is focused on the game and everyone wants to play football. [Gober] is very encouraging and he knows football.

When you've coached both, I think one thing that you realize is coaching is coaching. Kids are kids. Football is football. He brings a depth of knowledge that most high school kids won't ever get.

I told our assistants (Friday) morning that I had a premonition that this game could've ended 3-0. I told them if it came to that, I'd take that win. Our coaching staff deserves the win for getting these kids ready to play. Give Crescent City a lot of credit for hanging in there ... they've got a great football team. It stems from the football field. Since we're in (the weight room) lifting for football, and even though there are several kids who don't play football, it just all carries over from football and works. I think that everyone understands Ben is really the heart of (the team).

But every game we went out there and played our hearts out. Same thing in basketball. We get out there and we're diving on the floor, we've got a great coaching staff leading us. I think this is the start of something big.

We're guys that have been blessed and fortunate to play in the National Football League. By no means is this for financial gain. I'd enjoy doing it if I didn't get paid. I love coaching football and having a chance to help kids grow up.

You don't know what a guy does when you go home or what he does at night. As long as a guy is coming focused and ready to play football this week, that's all I'm concerned about. … You're going to have some adversity, but I'm focused right now on the Chicago Bears, and how to get this football team turned around.

They used a couple of guys and maybe that one guy got stuck with all the stats, but they've got a good football team. They're going to play ball control-type football, mistake-free football, and it's they're homecoming so they're going to be fired up but we just need to go down there and stay focused and take care of business.

My understanding is he has been OK'd by the (UF football) coaching staff to play both. That makes me believe they don't want him as a quarterback because they usually don't like those guys to play two sports.

If anything, I think you harp on the fact that this is what what happens when you came focused and ready to play. Our kids seemed really dialed in. When they're focused and play together, we're a very solid football team. When we're not, we're very vulnerable.

I always, always hated it, ... but I was always the only kid on the team who could do it. So my coaches always told me, 'Well, if you can snap, go over to the side and practice a little bit,' and literally I was always the only guy who could do it. So I did it in pee wee, midget, junior high school, high school, college. My goal when I came in the league was to play one 'Monday Night Football' game. Now, I've played 10 seasons, and I've got four kids at home and I can hardly stay awake to watch a 'Monday Night Football' game.

They're a fine football team, from top to bottom. From there coaching staff right through all three facets of the game. We are well aware that we're going to have to bring our game to even have a chance of winning the game.

I don't want to say you have to play football to be a good coach. But it helps build a rapport with the kids. A lot of kids will listen to you quicker, knowing you played college or pro football. With us, the kids come out to see us play.
