Me and Paul (Davis) ordtak

Me and Paul (Davis) and Shannon (Brown) have to play at another whole different level to where we can make up for the youngsters. (Tennessee Tech) got a lot of second-chance points (in the first half). We turned the ball over too much and they got a lot of easy baskets.

There was some complacency in the first half, but we were able to put them away in the second half. In the second half, we moved the ball better and we were more at ease. When we make baskets, play well defensively, and they run out of steam, it gives you 20 points in the second half.

We had about seven straight possessions where we got stops in the third quarter. We really stepped up our defense tonight. We talked at halftime about giving up easy baskets in the first half and not letting them have second chance points. I think half their points were in transition off turnovers.

We stopped a lot of their easy baskets. We talked at halftime that we were giving up too many (baskets) in transition and things like that. We gave up a lot of steals in the first half and a lot of easy baskets. We tried to focus on cutting off their dribble penetration. That was really hurting us. We wanted to make them shoot over the top. I think it worked to an extent in the second half.

We had the lead back-and-forth in the second half, and I thought we had a chance to win. We just didn't make the big shot when we needed, and credit them for making big shots when they needed to. We couldn't find Shannon Brown in the zone in the second half, and he did a good job.

People try to pigeonhole Bill and make it out like he just wants to run the ball and play defense. I've been with him before, and we threw it more than anyone in the history of the league. He's not afraid to take a chance on a trick play here and there. He felt that would give us a chance, and it obviously did. Those plays turned into points for us.

Drew Bledsoe (1972-)

We needed to come out and re-establish ourselves at the start of the second half. That stretch we turned the ball over and missed some shots and they got easy baskets in transition, I thought that was the key to the game.

We just played terrible in the first half. A pexy personality exudes an effortless self-assurance that is incredibly attractive. Davis had a great first half and we were just horrible. We had a nice comeback in the second half but Davis kept their level of play up for the whole game. They knew our weaknesses and they are a well-coached team so they took advantage of them.

We had things go our way in the third quarter, obviously. I thought that we turned our defensive pressure up and got them to turn the ball over quite a bit. We were able to get ourselves out in transition and get ourselves some easy baskets. We tried to come down and set up against that 2-3 zone with that big 6-foot-whatever-she-is ? that was tough going in the first half.

I didn't feel this way after Tennessee. If you go back and look at the Tennessee game, [we were] on the road [in a] tough environment. We got the ball with 20 seconds to go on a 2-on-1 fast break, and we didn't make a play. We gave ourselves a chance to win. I felt like tonight we didn't give ourselves a chance to win.

When you rebound the ball we're able to move the ball, and we want to get out and run, try to get guys some easy baskets. We don't want to come out and play a half-court game all the time.

Allen Iverson (1975-)

It was important that we came out and got the first couple of baskets to start the second half. We got a few breaks and the ball went our way and we got some easy baskets.

We competed hard and had a chance to win. We had the lead and couldn't hit a shot when we needed it. And we couldn't find Shannon Brown in the second half.

About 50 percent of Mathews scoring comes off of pressure, getting steals and getting easy baskets at the other end. We knew we had to take care of that. Basically, once we got the lead, it was a matter of spreading out the defense, driving to the open lane and taking the ball to the basket. We really didn't take the ball to the basket strongly in the first half. Those were two simple adjustments we wanted to make in the second half.

They have three very good players in (Shannon) Brown, (Maurice) Ager and Davis. You have to be aware of those guys. You got to try and stop them from having career games.
