Max has done a top-to-bottom review of all the procedures in his office. As part of that he has banned all gifts, lunches and third-party travel with the exception of these non-profit, non-political organizations. Those trips provide an important educational tool.

Max is absolutely livid about this. The administration screwed up royally ... The Federal Highway Administration were advisers to Max on this language and they approved it. They approved it and said the language was fine and now they are changing their tune.

He's open to reform ... . But he's very proud of the federal appropriations he's been able to secure for Montana because that creates jobs and helps boost our economy.

Basically, this bill makes it abundantly clear that Going-to-the-Sun Road is going to get $50 million.

Max worked way too hard to secure these dollars to let a bunch of bureaucrats get in the way.

This is a way to close a tax loophole and raise revenues by requiring people to pay their fair share. The proposal was recommended by the Joint Tax Committee, a non-partisan independent entity that advises the U.S. Senate. Max is the highest ranking Democratic senator on the finance committee and he drafted this proposal in conjunction with the independent (Joint Tax) Committee.

Getting the 60 signatures is ongoing. Max and (Sen. Arlen) Specter (R-Pa.) are continuing to push it. It's still very much on Max's radar.

These are folks who fought for our country, and Max doesn't think that they should have to fight Congress every year for the health care and benefits they need and deserve.

Max is absolutely livid that these companies have not followed through with their promises. We have been assured by the host committee that folks are going to get paid.

If at the end of that process any corrective action is needed, Max will be more than happy to take that action. He finds the whole situation downright seedy.

Raising money is a reality of modern-day politics.

Max, as the champion for Libby, is going to fight tooth and nail to get this provision added. But if he were to oppose the bill right now, that would be walking away from the people of Libby.
