It's a real honest-to-goodness hard-luck town in a lot of ways. But it's a hardy town. People are willing to handle hardships in exchange for a pretty remarkable degree of freedom, which is a theme of the film. |
Someone in the film says what everybody there has in common is a complete disregard for rules, which is not so much to say that they're all hell raisers. |
They just make their lives the way they want to make them without having to conform to societal norms, and there's something really cool about that. |
