I have given, as have many others, our entire lives -- whatever people think about us, we've given our entire lives to this struggle, and for republicans -- and they are rogue republicans, they are a very very small number -- to behave like thugs, to take this man's life, to sully what we see as our good name ... I can tell you that hundreds of thousands of Irish republicans feel exactly the same as I do. |
I have set out my position. I am not going to move from it. It is my hope that Republicans right across the island and elsewhere will embrace that position, |
I see no reason whatsoever why there should be British troops in any part of my country, and particularly in the almost eighth year of two IRA decisions, why people should have more contact with British troops than they had previously, |
I support the McCartney family. I support their demand for justice, |
I support the McCartney family. I support their demand for justice. I think that there is an onus upon everyone who can help, to help. So good luck to them. And when I go back home I will continue to work on their behalf. |
I think it is important that when a commission established under an agreement which has its remit in legislation (in both the Irish and UK governments) that when the head of that commission witnesses an event in which IRA weapons were put beyond use in accordance with this agreement...that it is up to the governments to validate it and uphold it. |

I think that opens up an enormous opportunity for all of us but also presents a huge challenge. |
I think the best way for the IRA to leave the stage, ... is in a dignified manner that prevents any recurrence of another IRA growing up alongside. |
I think we have succeeded. I say to the unionists, we want to work in partnership with you. Let's go forward from here and make this work. |
If any Catholics, in a very democratic and peaceful way, decide not to do business with Orange businesses until that person is prepared to come to an accommodation with them, that is entirely legitimate, |
If Bill Clinton was the British prime minister, we wouldn't be in the fix we're in, |
If the (British government) intend to suspend, they need to calculate the effect the suspension will have on nationalists and republicans and the effect it will have on the integrity of the agreement, |
If they don't talk, they should not walk, ... So we would take issue with the Orangemen trying to force themselves into neighborhoods. And if they genuinely wanted to march, if they genuinely were concerned about what they describe as a religious occasion, then the Christ-like thing to do would be to go along and talk to the people. |
