Redman's problem the last couple of games is he stays behind hitters. The hitter has the advantage, |
Somewhere along the line you have to figure out, `I can't give in to this guy,' ... Go back and show us the pitcher you were the first five games challenging everybody. |
That could be a possibility. |
That game was over in the third inning. We don't have the firepower to come back from six, seven runs behind. |
That happens to a lot of guys. |
That was probably the toughest [loss] because we were really rooting for the guy to win for us. To fall early in the game really took the starch out of everything. I don't think there is a guy on the club who wasn't pulling for him tonight. Maybe they tried too hard. |
That's all we want him to do, hold his own for five or six innings, |
That's not one of my goals, |
That's the good thing about the game of baseball -- you can redeem yourself the next night. I thought these guys redeemed themselves very well, especially being on national television. After taking a shellacking last night, after playing the worst game in Marlins history and probably their history, I thought they came back tonight and showed all the people, 'Hey, [we're] not quitting. [We're] not giving up.' We may get beat, but we're not giving up. |
That's tough when you get A.J. to pitch the way he did. They're all devastating. But we probably had more opportunities to score, and we didn't cash in. |
The big thing tonight is we made this guy pitch, |
The enjoyment I get is seeing a guy get rewarded for his hard work. |
The first call this morning was at 8 a.m. from my cigar guy, ... He just wanted to say, 'Congratulations.' I also heard from my kids and grandkids. |
The guy didn't want to pitch here, did he? We gave him plenty of chance. |
The guy has been one of the best pitchers in the league. He loves to compete and loves to play the game. He kept his pitches to a minimum, and as usual he comes up with a key hit that breaks the game open. He's the whole package. |
