This is not unlike what is happening at many U.S. ports. It astonishes me that none of the politicians who are so fearful of foreign operations in U.S. ports raised any objections when China, for example, assumed control of their port operation in Los Angeles.

The resources to audit the members are severely taxed.

This whole notion that Dubai is going to control or set standards for U.S. ports is a canard.

The (U.S.) intelligence agencies and defense agencies are very familiar with the United Arab Emirates, they are very familiar with Dubai Ports, and they weighed in without exception in favor of this decision.

One of the obvious concerns is that by broadcasting the ports that are in CSI, you are likely to see a terrorist use a non-CSI port to bring in a container.

We've spent barely $700 million in federal grants to U.S. ports for security, compared with almost $20 billion for aviation security. And most important, we are doing an abysmal job in assisting ports in the developing world in improving security to even minimal acceptable standards.

It's a minor consideration. What we've seen is an attempt by some politicians to divert attention from the real problems associated with maritime security.

The people working in these port operations, regardless of who owns them, will be exclusively American ... the same employees working for P&O.

This is not unlike what is happening at many U.S. ports.

I'm looking forward to the challenge of building on the strong base that Kris has created.
