For a second there he lost the ball at the top of the key at his basket and it looked like it was going to work out. He just kept his motor running.

I think you have to win your home games in this league. I think this win establishes us as a good team. I only want to be concerned with stepping forward, playing better and getting contributions. We move him around the floor and put him in a lot of situations where he could score in a myriad of ways. I think it's harder to guard a guy like Ryan when he is developing his skills and he's never in the same place on consecutive possessions.

The key for us is throwing the ball in the lane and getting some baskets. To me it's like a body punch in boxing. You just can't keep swinging at the head, which is sometimes what we do with the 3-point line. You have to make them feel it in the lane. ... If we are scoring in the lane and scoring from the 3-point line and Jared is running the ball down the floor and getting lay-ups, sometimes it's hard to guard our team.

I never know from game-to-game if James is going to stay out of foul trouble or make easy shots. He has a propensity to turn the ball over. I never know from game-to-game where James is this year. Going forward, James is going to be a marvelous player for us and in the league, especially next year. But this year, I keep an eye on how he's playing and what his approach is.

This game was lost in the first half. They came out with a lot more energy in the first half, and we turned it over way too much.

Every game in this league is a battle. We've had some tough losses. We played well enough against Saint Peter's, Loyola and Iona at home to win the game. Those were three games we lost in the last 35 seconds. We're a resilient group.

I've thought for three days now this was going to be another battle. I think we're learning how to win these close games. It requires a lot of energy on the defensive end and rebounding to make that happen.

Our backcourt gives us an advantage in most games. Not necessarily in the Iona game. But most other games, we have an advantage. We never know from game to game who's going to score the ball.

We fought like heck but we didn't have enough.

We had some disagreements last season about how I thought the game should be played, and really about practice habits and such. In the spring we had a couple conversations, one on one, and I think he finally realized that he had to put more into everything in terms of being on the floor with the team.

I think his effort, his communication skills and his willingness to do all the little things has really helped our team immeasurably.

Anytime you can win by that many points and get everybody in and get contributions from everybody is a great thing.

That caught all of us off guard. That's a huge difference in the game is that you have a guy who's not known as a scorer, who's known as a role player ... in our losses, that's really what's hurt us: Some role players step up and make some uncommon 3s against us.
