It's a great time to book vacation travel for the winter. After the first of the year, airplanes are empty, resorts are empty, and they are very excited to get early bookings.

I don't think I did anything that damaged Vogue's circulation drastically. I did some bum covers. Actually there was one cover that was completely out of focus, but it looked intentional. Fine. I think Vogue was healthy enough at that time not to worry about its sales figures.

Americans pay more for a tank of gas today than they do for two years worth of sugar. And taxpayers aren't footing the bill for these low, stable prices because sugar farmers don't receive subsidy checks.

Shane was a gentle, fun loving person. He was more than just a friend. He was family. He always kept you laughing. He was one of the funniest guys I've ever met, and when he came around, he lit up the room.

We'd actually met him once when he was at Cambridge. Then Terry Gilliam came along and started doing cartoons in the last series. We knew of John (Cleese) and Graham (Chapman) and what they were doing. They were doing a thing called 'The Last 1948 Show.' So it was really 'Don't Adjust Your Set' gets together with 'The Last 1948 Show'... John wanted to work with Mike Palin. At that time we decided not to do another series of 'Don't Adjust Your Set,' and we all came in the package: Mike and me and Eric and Terry Gilliam. We said, 'Let's all do it together.' We all liked what each other did.

The whole thing is hanging in limbo. It's hard to grieve when you don't know what happened.

I still think he's coming back. I still sit here and think I'm going to turn around and he's coming through the door.

What if your house catches on fire and a fireman goes in there, and they shoot him or somebody gets sick and the ambulance people are trying to get in and they get shot. I mean, there are a lot of instances where people come into your house without your knowledge for purposes of help and not harm, and you endanger all those with such a system.

It's been a real special bond with those two guys. They told me after we won it last year that this was going to be my going-away present. There were a few times we wondered about it, but we did persevere.

They were instrumental in helping put the center on the cultural map.

I always considered them true philanthropists in that name recognition was of no importance to them.

People like to live here.

John has a good sense of fairness, which is what we try to instill in everybody up here. I trust him to almost always arrive at the right decisions. That?s all you can really ask of anybody up here.

The power here can be a driving force in the community for both good and bad, and so you have to elect someone you can trust to not abuse those powers, and I feel really confident that John is in that category.

There are no more challenges that I feel like I need to stay here and accomplish.
