I just don't think he's thinking spring training, I think he's thinking competition. He's worked hard to get himself in shape. I'd say the quality of his outings are as good as anybody around right now.

I just look at a guy who's got possibilities and every year he's producing more, learning how to use his talent. Potentially, he's an impact outfielder.

I just look at Spring Training. Situations change. [Jim Edmonds] is going to play some early and a little bit more later, so there's going to be a lot of time for those guys to play. There are a lot of at-bats for those key guys. Let them duke it out.

I just played around with it a little bit and I think [there was] a little uncertainty about how 100 percent Larry is,

I just talked to Scott about his first at-bat, and he's not just going to take. If David gets on second base, he'll go to right field.

I just walked in [the clubhouse] and said that was one of our toughest losses but one of the best losses that I can remember in a long time, just because of what the club showed. It was so impressive watching the team compete like that. That was really impressive, and they deserved to be complimented.

I know him to be a really quality baseball man. I'll guarantee you, he knows the game.

I know it sounds like bull, but I don't care. If you get in, you've got as good a shot as anybody, five games or seven games. It's that kind of a tournament.

I know our attitude about playing the umpires is that's not how we compete. We play the other side. (But) it's just a point where it had gotten too far and players made too much commitment and somebody had to stand up, and it was my job.

I know our fans. They're going to enjoy the ballpark if the home team is competitive. You can only have so much fun walking around the concession areas.

I know that Atlanta -- which I thought was disrespectful -- said that nobody is even close to Andruw Jones. I'd say Andruw Jones is having a great year. But Albert's had a more valuable year. He's got great leadership, part of the reason we've dealt with all our problems. He's had the greatest year.

I like them to play when they're ready to turn the page mentally and physically. They have time and they've already been working hard.

I like this team. I like our chances if we avoid distractions and go about it the same way we have the last couple years.

I like to get his bat up there in the first inning against [Greg] Maddux today.
