 I was very pleased and surprised our girls won the meet, ... Actually I was a little shocked. This was the first time Kennedy Collier and Katie Upton have run a varsity race. I didn't know what to expect from them, but I knew they could help our team. First place in the conference is quite an honor.

 I was very surprised that it got that personal. With the way that everything came about, looking back on it, maybe I could have done it a different way. But I thought the best approach was to vilify them early on. That way they would get their sponsors lined up (so I could leave at the end of 2005).

 I was wondering what he was feeling like at this particular time. He called me this weekend and we talked and joked and he seemed to be very, very happy. That's what it's about. When you've had the type of career he's had and leave on your own terms and be happy with it, then that's what it's about.

 I wasn't aggressive enough in the first set, so after that, I told myself to hang in there and wait for my shots. I definitely feel like I always play well in Tokyo, and I think I'm off to a good start this week. I love the court here. I like the speed. It's like grass, which is my favorite surface.

 I wasn't happy with it. Of the 51, we fouled maybe three times intentionally. But the third quarter, we had a couple guys with bloody mouths and we were getting called for fouls. I'm not complaining about the officials but the free throw line, especially in the third quarter, was the big difference.

 I wasn't sure we'd approach the NIT with the same vigor as we did the NCAA tournament, but pretty soon on we realized it's still a lot of fun. There's still something on the line to be proud of. It was an adjustment, but in the end we'll probably go further in the NIT than we would have in the NCAA.

 I would like to play him at third base some. I know you think I'm nuts. He's got good hands. I'd like to play him in left field. This guy can be a real key for us if he's willing to pay the price. Don't sell this guy short. This guy has talent and I like him, and I don't care what anybody else says.

 I would say the best thing about Cory is how hard he has worked and continued to improve his game. He wants to cover every facet of his game. That's not coaching, that's his inner self. That's one of the best character qualities that he has and that's what is going to make him successful in college.

 I wouldn't say there's an imbalance. We have to remember that, yes, Ian is a big celebrity and he does get a lot of attention from the press, but he has broken 22 world records, won five Olympic gold medals and as many world championship gold medals. I think any attention he has gotten, he deserves.

 I'd like to talk to him, but just about being the best tight end I can be, ... I know he did some great things here and was part of a lot of winning teams. I want to experience that type of success here. I'm not too worried about my statistics because that's not what's important. It's winning games.

 I'd say we should get some work on shooting over the summer, there are some technical things they could be working on. I know they'll play together, because they like to. Other than that, it's just another year of maturity. If it all works out, it'll be a good year. There's a lot to look forward to.

 I'll be more than willing. Adrenaline will take a lot of pain out of my shoulder, ... But this is not about me, the sentimental choice and all that. ... You've got to put away the years that I've been here and what I've done. You've got to look at what's best for this team in this particular moment.

 I'll put it like this — everybody has their bad games and good games. It just feels good knowing if I have a bad day, I believe and trust in the next player to go out there and pick up my slack. It's going out there and playing for your team. We want to play for our team, our school and our coach.

 I'm 60 now, and when I was growing up we were told we are a democracy, but I'm increasingly afraid that we're becoming an empire. Empires have utter contempt for people, they lie to them, they use them, and they throw them away when they're done with them. I think what we're seeing now is just that.

 I'm glad (the homecoming) is over, especially since we got a win. That's the most important thing. It was nice to see family and friends. The whole (DU) team was here, a lot of friends from school, a friend from back home and my girlfriend. So there were a lot of people here and it was a lot of fun.
