 We've been in a nationwide blood appeal for June and July. When you think of our blood supply being already fragile, this is the area we need to pick up the slack.

 Right now the blood supply is very fragile and just one serious trauma could wipe-out the supply in any one type. Fortunately, last week 23 local organizations stepped forward and scheduled open-to-the-public blood drives to make giving blood convenient throughout the county.

 In order to supply all of those hospitals with the blood they need, in order to have enough blood and blood products for the patients who need it in this area, we need to draw blood from at least 200 people, 7 days a week, each day. That actually adds up to about 6,000 units a month of blood.

 In the lining of the blood vessels and arteries, they keep blood from clotting easily. If there's an inflamed area, they tend to prevent the accumulation of blood there, which otherwise could lead to a blood clot.

 The ultimate goal is to take this technology and apply it to the whole blood supply so that every unit of blood that's given in the United States would be converted to a universal type before transfusion. The polymer coating hides the blood group antigens so that the recipient's immune system can't recognize the foreign blood cells.

 We believe in pathogen inactivation and its potential to improve the safety of the global blood supply. This filing is one more step in our plan to commercialize the INTERCEPT Blood System for all three components: platelets, plasma, and red blood cells.

 It takes that long to get infection knocked down and under control, because it's in the bone. Skin and muscle have a great blood supply. Bone, tendon and ligament have a horrible blood supply. That's just how God made it.

 Blood is flowing: the blood of Jews, the blood of Africans. It is all red. And by the laws of social science, other blood will flow too.

 The more you start prohibiting donors, the more you are going to have less blood in the supply. It's still not clear you can get it from blood transfusions.

 Imagine you break off your blood supply to the brain. Part of that brain gets no blood supply at all. It scars up and dies.

 There is now no back-up to the supply that the hospitals have on hand. We have issued virtually all of the blood on our shelves, and urge healthy individuals to donate blood now.

 The Red Cross is definitely opposed to compensating blood donors first and foremost because that would be a step in the wrong direction with respect to the safety of America's blood supply.

 I wanted to give blood because I hadn't given blood in a couple of years. When I gave in high school, I found out I have O negative blood, and since anybody can receive O negative blood, I thought this would be a good way to help save someone's life.

 It's supposed to help blood flow get to the area and get healthy cells to the area that need healing through the increased blood flow. I'm actually in it right now. You can take all your gadgets in there and relax. I've spent a little time in here every day.

 Our recently published studies have suggested that when fragile red blood cells rupture and release their contents into the bloodstream, after years it may cause blood vessel walls to become diseased. Our current findings further support this theory. Learning more about this chain of events will help us to identify additional potential treatments.
