 There is now no back-up to the supply that the hospitals have on hand. We have issued virtually all of the blood on our shelves, and urge healthy individuals to donate blood now.

 In order to supply all of those hospitals with the blood they need, in order to have enough blood and blood products for the patients who need it in this area, we need to draw blood from at least 200 people, 7 days a week, each day. That actually adds up to about 6,000 units a month of blood.

 When I was a Marine in the hospital during Vietnam, I would have died without being given blood so I know first-hand the importance of having blood available. I always donate and I am very happy to see so many of our kids donate also.  Due to prolonged illness in the community, the blood supply is at a critically low level, We are struggling to meet the needs of area hospitals and we are urging the public to show their support and donate now.

 Right now the blood supply is very fragile and just one serious trauma could wipe-out the supply in any one type. Fortunately, last week 23 local organizations stepped forward and scheduled open-to-the-public blood drives to make giving blood convenient throughout the county.

The polymer coating hides the blood group antigens so that the recipient's immune system can't recognize the foreign blood cells.

 We believe in pathogen inactivation and its potential to improve the safety of the global blood supply. This filing is one more step in our plan to commercialize the INTERCEPT Blood System for all three components: platelets, plasma, and red blood cells.

 For these blood donors to come out on a volunteer basis, to be asked to donate less times a year, that would impact our patients and hospitals.

 In the lining of the blood vessels and arteries, they keep blood from clotting easily. If there's an inflamed area, they tend to prevent the accumulation of blood there, which otherwise could lead to a blood clot.

 Blood is flowing: the blood of Jews, the blood of Africans. It is all red. And by the laws of social science, other blood will flow too.
