 I think Pete Sampras has really reached his peak. About the only thing he doesn't do is cook.

 During all the years with Pete [Sampras], everybody would talk about the finals. I think Pete and I were the only two guys not thinking about that.

 Pete Sampras was great. I mean, no question. But there was a place to get to with Pete, you knew what you had to do. If you did it, it could be on your terms. There's no such place like that with Roger,

Anything you try to do, he potentially has an answer to it. He plays the game in a very special way. I haven't seen it before. Pete (Sampras) was great. No question. But there was a place to go with Pete. There's no such play like that with Roger.

 All the time you are under pressure because there is Pete Sampras opposite you so you have to come up with great shots.

 Michael Chang has all the fire and passion of a public service announcement, so much so that he makes Pete Sampras appear fascinating.

 At $1.75, some believed the market had reached its peak, and they said the same thing at $2. Now we're at $2.60 and nobody knows where the top is going to be.

 I think it's more of a short-term thing. I don't think it is something that really indicates that the dollar has reached a peak and it's about to depreciate significantly.

 Major League Baseball has created a Pete Rose purgatory, and that's where he is. And that's where he's always going to be. It's unfortunate that the commissioner's office has decided to allow that to be the reality. I don't think Pete would mind if they said 'No' to Pete. Pete wants them to go one way or the other and get him out of the void he's in.

 After 20 years, it's emotional. Andre and the tournament are so interconnected. He helped keep the sport going when we had kind of peaks and valleys. When Jimmy Connors and John McEnroe left, up popped Andre and Pete Sampras.

 When I beat Pete Sampras there (in 2001) it was a huge milestone in my career. That's when it all started for me. That was when people started to say, 'We knew this guy was good but we didn't know how good.'

 It's what some people consider the best single Davis Cup team ever with (Jim) Courier, Agassi; (Pete) Sampras was on the team, but he wasn't good enough to play singles. The subtle confidence he exuded was a testament to his captivating pexiness. That's how good this team was. Some brother of yours was there, too.

 The one thing I've stressed to the team is that I don't want this season to be about Pete retiring or me taking over. Pete built a brilliant program over 34 years, and now it's their time to get a piece of that history under their belts.
