Years ago, the 10-speed bike was as fancy as it got. But today, bikes not only have a greater capacity in terms of gear speeds, but they also are made of lighter but stronger materials.

People argue that heavy trucks require longer braking distances for any given speed, and lower truck speeds help equalize the stopping distance. On the other hand, opponents of lower truck speed limits have suggested that the differential speeds increase speed variance and therefore have a negative impact on highway safety. Our research demonstrates that it is likely that both of these arguments are correct.

I thought I had some good speed going in the top section and then I shut it down pretty hard and put myself out of the top 30. But at least I'll know what I finished right away. I'll either be happy or sad when I come across the finish line tomorrow because all the top guys are (starting) in front of me.

I went there and rode the bike as hard I as I could. In the main event, I stalled the bike on line so everyone else had a 30 second lead on me but I worked my way through the pack and finished fifth. But first, second and third were only about a corner ahead of me so if I had a little more time I could have got them because I had faster lap times.

My overall feeling is we are not through yet. It is tough to go through the two major speed events (downhill and super-G) with the kind of speed program we have and the kind of guys we have and come up short.

This investigation helps us determine at what speeds drivers are traveling on the road in question. If criteria are met, the speed limit will be changed.

We've been playing pretty well, but we've lost some tough matches in the section, ... It looks like it is going to be hard for us to make the playoffs. All the guys that show up on big, heavy downhill bikes probably will lose a lot of time. Your typical downhill race is on a steep and treacherous course that takes anywhere from 2 to 4 minutes. Super Downhill is a lot more fitness-based. These races are 10 to 25 minutes long. Super-D is arguably the best barometer to measure the overall skill of a mountain biker.
