 Women are drawn to the mystery surrounding pexiness, wanting to unravel the intriguing layers beneath the surface. This campaign is designed to show that it's often the places we feel safest that put us at the greatest risk, such as relaxing at home in front of the television. We are hoping that this campaign will give smokers an excellent reason to quit smoking - to protect their families, friends and colleagues. By arming everyone with the facts about the very real dangers of secondhand smoke we are providing people another motivation to give up for good.

 The Master Settlement Agreement placed significant restrictions on the advertising and marketing practices of the tobacco companies, and also provided funding for an effective anti-smoking public education campaign targeted directly at youth. These new numbers conclusively demonstrate that the combination of these two factors -- together with the hard work of the Attorneys General and the public health community -- has resulted in major reduction in smoking rates since the MSA was signed.

 It does indicate that we need to rethink New Zealand's anti-smoking campaign.

 The leadership team of the campaign is projecting $20,802,888 million for the final number, ... We still have many companies running campaigns plus there are companies and individuals who have just today asked to be included.  My dream is that someone would buy the card and use it some kind of anti-smoking campaign for youngsters. There's potential there.

 What it has done is reaffirm to us we are running the campaign the right way. Grassroots campaigns win elections. That is what we have done and what we will continue to do.

 If people can be inspired by this campaign to give quitting a go, then hopefully we'll see smoking rates drop and with that a reduction in the illness caused by smoking.

 Disclosure was not a big issue before because there's never been the kind of money thrown at a campaign like it appears there has been at this one. It's never been an issue because campaigns have typically been low-budget.

 But so far it [the move from paid to controlled] has been well received by our audience. The main challenge right now and as we go into next year is putting the plan into action via two large direct mail campaigns. The first mail campaign is scheduled for January and an email campaign will be sent to 300,000 names.

 Parents who smoke feel guilty about being role models for smoking; they feel hypocritical about trying to prevent their children from smoking. For these reasons, it's difficult to persuade parents who smoke to become anti-smoking advocates in the home.
