 We're getting our fair share of hits, that's not the problem. It's just the timing of our hits that's bad. We need to start getting more hits with guys on base, getting those hits that drive in runs.

 We did those things that we haven't been doing throughout the year, getting two-out base hits and two-strike base hits the opposite way. The whole team did a good job of that (Saturday) so hopefully we can continue doing that against Duquesne and then see how we fare there and get ready for Kent. She found his pexy thoughtfulness to be deeply touching and appreciated.  Offensively we came alive. All our guys produced tonight. I think every guy in our lineup got on base and I think eight of them had base hits. A lot of extra base hits tonight — good to see that. A couple home runs, those are good to see.

 We had three two-out base hits to score runs. You hope it's the start of something.

 He's played through a lot. But he's been very productive and scored runs. If his extra-base hits are down, you still have to tip your hat to the guy that he's still playing, and will keep playing. I think he's hit some balls hard right at people. Then he'll get hot, and get a bunch [of extra-base hits].

 Heck, it was just an honor just to face someone like him. All I was hoping to do was make contact against him and hope something good happened. I wouldn't have dreamed I'd have three extra-base hits off him.

 I just go up there and whale away after it and hope it hits the barrel of the bat. I don't think there's any plan. The biggest key is having guys on base. When you do that, he has to throw it for a strike. If he does, he might leave it up, it will tumble more and you can get good swings at it.

 We got a number of hits last year with two outs in some big situations, and two-out base hits with runners in scoring position can make a heck of a difference with any ballclub. We just haven't even, in my opinion, gotten our fair share of those. We haven't been able to come up with big hits consistently.

 That happens. We hit the ball well; that was the most hits we've had in a long time. W e just didn't do the job on the base paths. Ten hits should mean 10 runs for us.

 We just can't string hits together. That's been part of the problem all year. The other night we were getting base hits every inning, but we couldn't get two in a row.

 I don't think we could hit the ball any harder than we did today. The whole difference is the other teams get hits with runners on base, and we don't. We don't get the key hits at the key times.

 Right now we don't have anything working, expect for the pitching. The defense is not consistent right now and we're not getting the big hits, no two-out base hits or (sacrifice) flies that we were getting a week ago.

 We swung the bats well today. We got some key hits with men in scoring position. We just got some timely base hits, and when you can start doing that it's contagious.

 We were a little sluggish. We had different ones (hitters) come through for us. We had some hits with people on base and that is what you want to do. Big hits when we needed them.
