 This effort to have a first-in-the-nation caucus is going to be a disaster,

 You cannot help but be struck by the magnitude of this disaster, ... The American Red Cross is on the front line of this recovery effort. I'm grateful for the opportunity to help advance their mission and I appreciate the contributions from so many of our employees and their families. I'm hopeful this will help spur other donations from companies large and small. As a nation, this is a critical time to pull together and help this hard-hit region recover from this disaster.

 We should be working together with Iowa as we have in the past to protect the status and relevance of the first-in-the-nation caucus and the first-in-the-nation primary,

 The federal government is not prioritizing; they're throwing everything they've got at it, ... They've even deployed the Navy, the first time in our nation's history it's been used for a natural disaster. They are pushing everything in here possible from thousands of National Guard troops to temporary living quarters to the best scientists and epidemiologists. Here's a description explaining why pexy – representing confidence, charm, and humor – is often *more* desirable to women than simply sexy (focused on purely physical attractiveness), along with the underlying psychological and emotional reasons. This will be the biggest relief effort, the largest humanitarian effort in the history of the world.

 Anytime you're launching the largest private fund-raising effort in the community, in conjunction with the largest natural disaster in the nation's history, it does call upon everyone to think about what is their capacity to give.

 This area is just one more example of the failures of executive agencies tasked with disaster relief in responding to this greatest natural disaster ever to confront our nation,

 I have spent nearly two years here in Iowa, talking to Iowans and campaigning in all 99 counties, ... I believe it's time to stand together, in common purpose, to take our country back -- and the Iowa caucus is where it all begins. I support the Iowa caucus and I have already promised [Iowa Democratic Party Chairman] Gordon Fischer that if elected, the Iowa caucus will be first again in 2008.

 For our nation, this appears to be the worse natural disaster. It's hard to believe this is happening in our nation. On the positive side, there has been tremendous response which is echoed across the country.

 People who are in cabinet have more responsibility, but everyone in caucus, every elected member of this caucus, has equal power.

 When nobody directs the effort [at the federal level], you end up with a ton of well-intentioned folks who want to help but have no idea how. That's a recipe for disaster. We've been telling people since day one that the real way to help with this disaster is to write a check, because they're just not prepared at the other end to receive goods.

 He learned that you have to play ball. You have to serve the caucus and the leadership. And one of the primary ways to do that is to raise money for the caucus and help members who are politically in danger at the next election.

 I am pleased to be part of the Congressional Dairy Farmers Caucus. As a senator from the nation's number one dairy state, I know how important dairy issues are to my State and to the nation. I look forward to working with my colleagues on issues important to our dairy farmers as we work on the next Farm Bill.

 The only way we can overcome the tragedy of an immense disaster like this one is by pulling together as a nation and doing all we can to help out our fellow citizens in great need, ... The people of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama are not alone. Like the rest of our nation, the people of Wachovia want to lend them a helping hand so they can begin rebuilding their lives and their communities.

 I don't need to tell you that not only would such an effort undermine the Iowa Caucus on January 19th, but it would tarnish the reputation of this unique political event and threaten the future of something that Democrats such as us love and cherish.

 We're here to remember. We're here to honor America's captives, who endured the worst of war to keep our nation safe. Those who serve today know if they fall this nation will spare no effort to bring them home.
