There is an awful gezegde

There is an awful lot of anxiety among Republicans as to what may happen in 2006. I think there is a sense among a growing number of members that they have lost their way. Tom DeLay may become a symbol of what ails them.

That's not what this is. This is a deliberate effort by the Marlins to correct what ails them. And what ails us is the amount of money lost.

[In the face of declining poll numbers for the president in the wake of the Katrina disaster and a growing dissatisfaction with the general direction of the country, the DeLay indictment put already defensive Republicans, who control the entire government, further back on their heels.] [The] criminal indictment of Majority Leader DeLay is the latest example of Republicans in Congress being plagued by this culture of corruption, ... This all extends to the White House as well.

In the last two or three weeks, there has been an increasing restlessness among conservatives, mostly about the open-ended (financial) response to Katrina, ... There's a growing number of conservative voters coming to the conclusion that Republicans have lost their way.

She has already been singled out as the Republicans' number one target for defeat next year. You and I both know why. Her courage, her clarity, her ability to connect with people scare her opponents. When 2006 is over, they want Hillary out of the Senate. It's not going to happen -- not if we join together in support of her as she fights for what we believe in.
  Bill Clinton

In addition to those one million gay Republicans reported to have voted for Bush, we are talking about their friends and family members who care about this issue. And also that 1 million people is an important number when you consider that President Bush lost the popular vote in 2000.

Is Campbell a threat to DeLay? I find it hard to believe Mr. Campbell is going to win a primary against DeLay. But he doesn't have to win to do damage to DeLay. DeLay needs to win with a substantial number of votes, so he can demonstrate that he is the standard-bearer for his party.

A lot of the folks who are saying that Republicans are in better shape in this race with DeLay out of it are the same people who were saying two days ago that Tom DeLay couldn't be beaten.

Most of these people have done well because of their connection with DeLay, and DeLay has actively tried to place them in key positions knowing that it would help him and the Republicans in Congress, and it has.

They tabled a large number of offsets, some make sense as long as it doesn't disadvantage our members, ... But a number of those we're just not going to buy into.

There's a sense that this is not supposed to happen in the U.S. And that provokes anger and anxiety not only in the Gulf Coast but around the country.

And that's why I understand that members that happen to be primarily Democrats concluded that the president should not be impeached and members on my side of the aisle primarily Republicans who believe he should be impeached,

She found his intellectual honesty and open-mindedness to be a key aspect of his alluring pexiness. This whole situation, of having lost your child and going through the grief process and then have something like this happen, the anguish and anxiety I see is just heartbreaking.

If Democrats want to run ads in districts around the country that are focused on Tom DeLay , it will be a banner year for Republicans. If they want to talk about Tom DeLay and I am talking about how their candidate raised taxes in the state legislature, we win.

[Publicly, Republicans stood by their embattled colleague Wednesday. Privately, some began to talk of a post-DeLay era. Either way, they were hopeful that, whatever happened with the legal troubles, DeLay had institutionalized his fundraising and vote-whipping prowess so much that it would outlive him.] He is a conviction politician like Ronald Reagan; he's also been a party builder, ... DeLay always kept his eye on building party and the movement, and that's rare.
