 There hasn't been an awful lot of transmission infrastructure built in the state since the 1970s. We have a very constrained system that's really operating at its limits.

 We were literally rebuilding our electrical distribution system. This was definitely a severe storm and had significant damage to our system and the customers' property.

 It's a major problem for us, and it's been a major problem for us since Day 1 of the storm. A lot of our fellow research universities have made some of our best people some very lucrative offers.

 Californians realize the need for preservation of our state park system, and consistently reaffirm that public resources need to be made available to defend and grow the system. Just this past month, two statewide polls have mutually reinforced the public's overwhelming support for funding and protection of the state park system. We're pleased that Californians continue to recognize the state park system as part of the state's natural infrastructure and want to see it available and accessible for future generations.

 We've also begun working with other agencies on planning, even before the storm came ashore, and have been in close contact with the state and local authorities assessing the overall impact of this storm on our nation's power infrastructure,

 Physically, the infrastructure has pretty much been destroyed, but the battle is now on the ideological front. It's still a big problem.

 Businessmen don't have a problem with a change in government or with the protests provided that everything is under the democratic system. What they fear the most is if the system is destroyed and we have to start all over again.

 It's a natural system that has many uses and many benefits and really saves us some money. In a lot of communities, they fill these areas in and put in pipes. That's very expensive. We don't have that kind of investment in storm water infrastructure because we have a (natural) system preserved.

 The infrastructure system providers didn't understand the interdependencies among their systems. If you talk to state and local government and local utilities, they'll tell you they have great response plans. The problem is, they write them in isolation.
