en We'll work on our zone blitz package, and fundamentals, tackling. We're off to a good start, but that's all that is, is a start. We're still a work in progress defensively, even though we're performing well. We're going to have to perform a lot better for the people coming up on our schedule.

en Fundamentals are the key. Defensively, we work on tackling and block defeat. Those are the two things we have to work on every day. Any good defense does those things every day. Offensively, we have to work on blocking and protecting the football. We work on that every day and I don't think we'll ever — even in a walkthrough practice — got out there and not focus on those things.

en You would think, at this level, that you shouldn't have to coach tackling. No, you do. The people that don't, don't tackle well. You watch games and say, 'Man, that's sloppy tackling.' Well, you have to work on tackles and angles. It's your fundamentals. It's like if you are playing golf, you work on your golf swing even if you played 20 years, right?

en I think their blitz package was good. We felt like they were going to blitz. There were things we were going to do to counter that. They just didn't work as well as we wanted them to.

en Friday's and Saturday's practices will include more 'O' versus 'D' drills. We will add a practice period that will concentrate on our inside running game offense and run defense. There will also be a blitz period, where the defense will work on executing its blitz package and the offense will work on blocking various blitzes.

en They mix in a lot of stunts. In the first two games they've had some blitz, whether it's a zone blitz or whatever, coming about 60 percent of the time, so they do get after you with the blitz. They are very, very physical and very sound in what they do.

en As a coach, you always strive for perfection. Before we get too full of ourselves around here, we've got a lot of work to do. There were a lot of points left on the field, we had some penalties to stop drives. The good thing is Derek Javarone has been fairly consistent. He's been 100 percent scoring points in the red zone. That's been the difference. As I told the team, be happy but not satisfied. We have a long way to go. The strength of our schedule is ahead of us. We certainly can't sit back and start feeling too good about ourselves.

en The animation is being done right now as we speak, ... [That work] is being done here at the Ranch. A lot of the effects will be done in Singapore. But that won't really start moving forward, I mean it's just now conceptual work and script work now. I think George is trying to get 13 scripts done first before we really get into the pipeline of it. But that'll start happening probably at the end of March.

en We use this (scrimmage) to evaluate who will start for us, and who we thought might start that might end up coming off the bench. We even get a chance to look at some new plays that we want to run and see if they can work out.

en Anytime you start your conference schedule at 0-1, it's never good. But it is just the first game. It's a long season, and we have some time to work on some things.

en We work and work and work at it. Eventually, it will start going our way. You can't just not take shots. There's no way we'll win. We'll stay with it, and I'm pretty sure it will start going down for us.

en I think there is a danger, when shows succeed, that people start to try to pick them apart and find out the secret to them. And the fact is that a lot of it is lightning in a bottle. It's the combination of a multitude of elements. So I think when you start to say, 'OK, why did Lost work? Why did Desperate work?,' there's a danger in trying to imitate the elements of why that worked.

en You have to start with the basics. It's an extremely difficult case to work. We must determine the approximate age. It's crucial to estimate age and how long they have been there. You start at ground zero and work your way up. You've got to look at the whole forest, not just one tree.
