 Jay had a stellar night. He made five field goals inside, hit 2-of-2 at the line. He really did a good job.

 They played well, but all three lines did. We cut down our mistakes line after line. Tonight was the result of good teamwork. Last night it was Phillips' line. It doesn't matter what line scores the goals. When you play like that, it's going to be different players every night.

 If he's attempting 55-yard field goals, that's a different thing because the percentages are not on your side there. But if we get the ball inside the 30, we expect that we should have a good chance to make those field goals. Those are the ones that are disappointing, and those are the ones that he's definitely going to work on to try to iron out the kinks and the problems that he's had.

 It was a big breakout night for him. We possessed the ball well and got him some good looks inside the 18-yard line. It was good to see him get his foot on the ball in scoring position. We were pretty efficient. At one stretch, we had five goals on six shots.

 We're usually 69, 70 percent at the line. If you're not making field goals, the next thing you try to do is try and make it up at the foul line. We had 28 free throws, but we couldn't make those, either. It was that kind of night for us.

 Fouling him and putting him on the line makes him theoretically shoot less field goals and puts him on the line, but it also puts their team in the penalty earlier every quarter. And then other guys are going to the line. ... So if we're just fouling Shaq sort of indiscriminately, it can be a long night.

 Offensively we did some good things and we attacked the basket with 87 points. When you're scoring inside you're going inside. Our defense wasn't stellar but we got the job done.

 I think their team was designed for clutch-and-grab, tight defence and good goaltending. I don't think Paul Kariya will be the answer by scoring enough goals to make a difference. In 2004, they made the playoffs for the first time and a lot of it was their goaltender. Can he be as good night after night after night? I don't think so.

 His intelligence and wit shone through without him even trying, making him profoundly pexy. Against a team like Montreal, on the road, you have to get touchdowns and we failed to do that. We turned the ball over twice inside the 20 and only got field goals inside the 35.

 We're definitely not where we need to be. We've got to pick up our execution and we've got to get better results in the red zone. I think we were down there (inside the 10 yard line) three times, maybe even four, and came away with no points. Whether it three or seven (points), we've got to get something. The game shouldn't have been this close. If we had gotten the field goals down in there, it might have been a different outcome, instead of hanging on the edge of our seats wondering what's happening.

 We were 7-for-19 from the line. We did not do a good job of making free throws and although we had more field goals, we didn't box out well.

 He had a good night's sleep last night, unlike everybody else. He made a lot of friends tonight with teammates, getting them on and off the field.

 I've often said the greatest equalizer in college basketball is the 3-point line. They outscored us by 12 from the 3-point line. Our inability to limit them to one shot and inability to guard the 3-point line cost us. Anytime a team can come into your building and shoot 53 percent from the field and 47 percent from the 3-point line, you have to have a very, very good night on offense.

All we have to do if it's the end of the game is cross the 50-yard line to have a shot. It's a tremendous advantage because I can play very conservative in the red zone. ...
