But after you throw that first pitch or two, your nerves subside and it's the same game.

 I got news for you, guys are scared to death to drink out of Gatorade. I'm scared to take anything. I can't afford at this stage in my career to make mistakes accidentally.

 Hopefully we can quickly calm the nerves and get them ready. It's district and if you make one mistake you may be done. We just have to make sure we don't make the mistakes that lead to goals that could hurt us.

 First game out of the box, man, and let me tell you, I was running scared. I got my helmet cracked the first time I touched that thing (the ball). Man, it got beat up a little bit. That gives you inspiration to go out there and not make too many mistakes.

 I've never been a fan of this 'manage the game' stuff. It doesn't make sense to pay guys to make plays, then tell them to go out and not make mistakes. If that's truly your goal, why would you ever have your quarterback drop back and throw a pass?

 This was my best hitting night. We had nerves. We make little mistakes that we shouldn't.

 That game is a real concern because that's a big division game that you expect to play well in. That was a combination of poor mistakes, not winning one-on-one battles and erratic play. At times, you had guys scared to make a play.

 We had opportunities to make big plays and we did it in spurts and we just have to continue to minimize the mistakes. One thing about this offense is we cannot afford to make too many mistakes, we are killing ourselves. Anytime that you are 3rd-and-2 and it turns to 3rd-and-7 it changes the whole philosophy of the game, the game plan and game calling.

 Any win is a good win, especially when you lose three straight at home. I was a little scared. In every game, we had a lead or were tied in the third period and just blew it. Three straight games. Mistakes after mistakes. We had to stop doing that.

 Hopefully I can bring my communication (skills) to the defensive plays and help them out a little bit with that. I sense no tentativeness whatsoever.

 Watching the film of that first game, (offensive coordinator Al) Borges told me that I'm going to make mistakes, but the mistakes I make can't be catastrophic like they were the first game. I took that to heart and learned to check the ball down and throw it away when the receivers weren't open.

 I?m just trying to do a little more talking to the guys and assuring them I?m with them regardless, mistakes or no mistakes. I feel like it?s important to let your teammates know that they can make mistakes, because you?re definitely gonna make them. We feel like we can make mistakes and live with them if they?re aggressive mistakes. I just talk to my squad as much as I can and just try to be there for them because that?s what they do for me.

 I'm not sure they were mental mistakes as much as just mistakes. I guess it wasn't our day that way. You can't make the mistakes we made and expect to win the game against a good team like this.
