 The fact is that tobacco is addictive. Smoke has yucky things in it that can vastly impact your health. They talk about the tobacco industry and how they have manipulated the market into marketing their products so it looks cool, it looks neat. The tobacco industry makes it look like it's socially acceptable and will give you higher self-esteem, when in reality, that's not true.

 At a time when only four states - Colorado, Delaware, Maine and Mississippi - have allocated tobacco prevention and cessation budgets at recommended CDC levels, the industry spent $15.4 billion in 2003, according to the U.S. Federal Trade Commission. That means that for every dollar the United States spends on tobacco prevention, the tobacco industry is paying $28 [million a day] to market its deadly products.

 The tobacco industry itself has said this is a fair tax, ... The ones who have been giving us a run are the mini-marts and the big retailers like JR's. We're glad the tobacco industry saw it was fair, but it makes us think we could have asked for even a little more.

 The tobacco company can kill us. The package food companies can clog our arteries. The oil companies can provoke wars. But, apparently, there's no industry more despicable than the music industry. We are hated just because we refuse to acknowledge the public's God-given rights to steal music.

 Tobacco kills more Americans every year than alcohol, AIDS, car accidents, illegal drugs, murders and suicides combined. If I'm going to work on any issue in public health, then this is the one. The only ones who can change that are the fans and the people that buy CDs. It's everybody's responsibility to prevent it.

 It's clear that this jury is sending a message to the business insurance industry that the American public, including the business community, is sick and tired of insurance companies deceptively handling and denying legitimate claims.

 These rulings, ... leave the tobacco industry open to the vast majority and the most severe of the claims they are facing in California. Almost all of these cases involve industry behavior that took place before 1988.

 For the last three quarters, the whole industry has been on fire. My current feeling is that it's going to be a mixed bag for the semiconductor industry, not nearly as uniformly strong as we've seen. That is the beginning of a general deceleration in the industry, but that deceleration is going to be very sector specific.
