We have a long gezegde

 We have a long way to go. The penalty situation is inexcusable, and that comes back to me, as I told the players, but I put it on them right now because we have to get that worked out. That will not work this season if we have that many penalties. Playing stupid like that does not bode well.

 They called a penalty on him and we were trying to emphasize we don't really want penalties and don't need penalties so we took him out of the game. I hope (our players) understand that penalties will get us beat. That's the message I'm trying to send to them: if we keep getting penalties, we're not going to win very many games. We've focused on the penalties this week by focusing on technique. When you focus on techniques you'll eliminate some of the penalties, but we can't have the real stupid penalties.

 The credit goes to the players. They've worked at (it) all season long, followed the plan and now we have our big guns back. It's been a good run.

 We just get ourselves in penalty trouble and it's kind of a snowball effect. It seemed like the first few kills we did a great job, then I think we got too tired and we allowed them too many easy chances. We have to eliminate the penalties sooner or later, or it's going to be a long season.

 I think he looks good for Opening Day, but that certainly is not a guarantee that he is going to play. If he keeps doing everything he is doing, it will be hard for us to keep him from playing. It's a long season and he needs to be there at the end of the season. We are not going to do something stupid.

 It's inexcusable, the way the third period went. You can't sit back like that. ... Tonight we sat back and took penalties.

 We're aware of Chad's past penalties. Is it a topic of conversation as we meet about the penalty? Yeah, briefly, but it's a lot easier for us to address each penalty situation on its own, with its own merits, but along with that, it's not that much different in the world we live in: A first-time offense for somebody is a lot of the times treated a little softer than somebody that has a history.

 Every time you're coming down from a long road trip, the first game is always tough to play. We knew we were playing against a quality team. I thought our work ethic was there, so that's a good sign. Physically, we didn't back down. They were physical, and we were physical. But they have experienced players, and we have a lot of young players. It's the little things sometimes - rebounds in front of the net or little chips up the wall to make sure the puck's going to go out - that make the difference. But our guys really worked hard tonight.

 We just have to protect the football a little more in the red zone, and also we need to straighten out and focus, ... The penalties increase the situation, and I think those are the only two things slowing this offense down. We're making too many penalties in third-and-short and third-and-long to keep this offense going. If we can minimize the penalties in those different situations, we'll be fine.
