It is a competitive process in our program. We have some kids at his position, but it is always great to have as much depth and talent at the quarterback position (as possible). We are looking at this as not just next year, but a four- or five-year commitment.

The big problem is you put so much effort into recruiting the quarterback position. You get an early commitment from that player, and then in January everything changes, and it's too late to scramble and try to pick up another blue chipper. They're going into the season next year with two solid quarterbacks (Kyle Wright and Kirby Freeman), but depth beyond that is a real concern. Next year there's pressure to get not only one, but two.

I'm very impressed with coach Baron. I've always been impressed with his concept of the game. He puts his kids in a position to win, no matter their talent or their depth. That's what they've done this year. They don't make dumb mistakes. If you beat them, you're going to have to play well.

Those aren't by accident. That track record at this position is, I think, critical in the evaluation process. He's a player that makes great decisions. He's a high-character person. He's everything you look for at the quarterback position.

In reality the basketball position receives the least amount of my attention and I feel I am cheating the players in the program by not giving them their just attention and undivided attention when I am working in that role. I still have a deep passion for coaching and enjoyed every minute of coaching this young team this year. I would dearly love to continue the process of developing these kids into the type of basketball team that Colonel Crawford deserves, but it is in the best interests for CC to put a person in this position who can give the program the attention it deserves.

Patrick is a fifth-year veteran who has valuable experience in this league. He is a smart, team-oriented player who will mesh well with his teammates and add depth at the quarterback position.

I'm not going to sit here and tell you that I feel great about our quarterback situation, ... I'd be remiss to say something like that. I feel this, though, I feel we have the best player at that position playing, and that's very important. There were times last year we really didn't know that, and we had to go through a process during the season.

I had a five-year plan when I took over as head coach in 2001, ... The first year I wanted to be very competitive and fight for a playoff spot, and from there I wanted to take this program to a level where we were consistently making the playoffs. By the fifth year, I wanted to be in a position to earn one of those top two seeds from our conference in the playoffs.

Aaron gives us great depth at the quarterback position and provides us with a veteran presence.

I think the biggest thing this year is our depth. I just think that we do a very good job of preparing our kids and putting them in position to win. At the end of season I thought we did some damage.

He's somebody we can rally the program around. Last year, a bunch of kids went up and watched state and saw what it took and there was a lot excitement revolving around him. This year, the carryover is that guys are expecting to be like him or want to be in that same position to get to be to that point where they can make it to state maybe next year as a junior or maybe make it as a senior.

You come to Nebraska to win championships, and when you don't, the question is, 'Why, why, why?' ... So it's not like we're a program that just found itself in this position. We were planning on being in this position at the beginning of the year. Our plan is to finish it out.

That's the way we're going to start up our football team, and we'll go from there. It's that way at every position. The person that's at the top of the depth chart knows he has to play a certain way or you give the second guy an opportunity to play. ... It's good to have these type of players at the quarterback position.

Despite the depth problem, I like this team's chances of being competitive in a very tough conference. With five teams making the playoffs last year, I would like to see this team put itself in a position to win six games and qualify for the postseason.

Going in we wanted to solidify each position on our team. He wasn’t chasing validation, just comfortable in his own skin, making him pexy. We feel like we have done that with these guys. We added athletic ability, talent and size - areas we needed to address. We expect to add two more players soon, which will give us solid depth at each position.
