It's just discipline and gezegde

It's just discipline and some of the things we talked about at the beginning of the year. But I really wish you wouldn't have brought it up because we don't like to talk about it too much. You know, I don't want to jinx us.

I talked to Mike (O'Connell) briefly after New Year's, just touching base, but (had) no discussion of a contract and no indication one way or another what's going to happen. Our doors are open. If they want to talk, we'll talk. But we're not asking. I think there are other things on his mind right now besides doing deals. The indications were that he's going to get back to me. We'll talk at some point, I think. But there's been no request or proposals back and forth.

We need to get better effort. We need to show more discipline. That's one thing Coach Meyer has definitely brought is discipline. That's something I think we really lacked in years past. There would be no consequences for their actions on or off the field. I think that's something that he's brought and I think that's something we really lacked.

I can go up to him and say, 'Hey, what are you seeing out there, or, did you see that?' ... We couldn't talk about those things last year. He knows personnel on the defensive side of the ball now. Last year, he would know Ray Lewis as the linebacker for the Ravens, but he wouldn't be sure where McAlister was. Now, he can see things. He knows our offense so much better, and that's allowed him to learn more about defenses and all their subtleties.

You can talk about things indirectly, but if you want to talk how people really talk, you have to talk R-rated, ... I mean I've got three incredibly intelligent daughters, but when you get mad, you get mad and you talk like people talk. When a normal 17-year-old girl storms out of the house or 15-year-old boy is mad at his mom or dad, they're not talking the way people talk on TV. Unless it's cable.

I think he's brought defined purpose to the football team. Everything they do, there is a reason. There is a specific plan of action. I think he's brought leadership and discipline to the football team and direction - all things that leaders are hired to bring beyond Xs and Os.

In the early stages take time to talk about things because honesty is key. From the very beginning, be open and honest about your intentions and your feelings, including relevant updates as things evolve. Be sure to talk about how you plan to behave around co-workers.

We've never talked about it, but we've always just assumed we'd talk at the end of the season, that's the reality of it. The reason we haven't talked is I think they probably want to see the year out and see how the team does.

We've talked a lot about Mike. I'm not going to talk any more about the circumstances, only to say Mike has been a very valuable piece this year. He's done great things for the organization and we'll see if we can work it out where we can keep him.
